Powers De-Cat EPROM
Discussion
They swap the EPROM chip in the ECU for one with a different map to account for the missing Cats.
Simple procedure, just need to be careful with earthing / static electricity. Plenty of You Tube videos on swapping EPROM chips.
Small cover on ECU case is over it. Although many covers have fallen off over time!
Not sure it develops any additional / noticeable power but it does sort out fueling.

I think if you decat you should use a decat ECU Prom mapping for fueling … but ideally get a bespoke map from Dom … but not very practical if you are in Canada . I had a std. decat map in my Sag , my Tuscan wasn't decatted but there were issues when I tried to get a bespoke map so I ended up with a new engine 4.5 SS and the new MBE ECU with a bespoke map. These things always finish up costing more money than you envisaged .

Is anything written in the re-mapped chip?
Any way to tall it's been done by popping the cover off?
The programme map was written 'in' the chip.Any way to tall it's been done by popping the cover off?
Dom does have a basic 'decat' map for each of the S6 engines. He sent me one with my std 4.0 rebuild to fit when the cats get the big Spanish violinist.
I haven't fitted it yet so can photo it if you'd like - assuming I can find it :BigLaugh: - to see what is written 'on' it.

Just checked .. My original Tuscan chip has a label " Tuscan "S" 2EA 88B but I also have another EPROM which just has a blank label can't remember what that was Any way to tall it's been done by popping the cover off?
Don't know whats on the decat chip but the one that came out has a label with the following;
S6 CERBERA
2F1940 FM
TVR

If you are interested in loaning/renting/selling it to me to see if it fixes my AFR fault I am really interested!!Dom does have a basic 'decat' map for each of the S6 engines. He sent me one with my std 4.0 rebuild to fit when the cats get the big Spanish violinist.

I reset the adaptive maps etc after installing the new Lambdas. I guess I should have reset them first, doohh.
The readings look good now, no AFR fault logged
I took her for a drive today, but no faults.

Good perseverance!
I would always reset adaptives when changing anything around the fuelling (TB airflow - lambda changes etc).
And always wait until the engine has got some heat in it before resetting adaptives...don't get worried by (biggish) numbers (adaptives) as the ECU sees the temperatures and starts controlling..

Yep, confirmed my chip (photographed earlier) is indeed the stock map.
I've now ordered a decat chip. I assume it's just a case of:
Remove ECU and swapping the EPROMs out
ECU back together
Starting the car
Short drive to warm up
Reset adaptives
All done? Have I missed anything?
Do you need to reset the throttle pots etc too?

But as I said in

I think Dave Chants figures were also the difference between bespoke decat and std with cats in .
Also was Daves pipes not just the cores taken out of the cats.

I would be very very surprised if someone saw a 30bhp gain just with a generic decat chip unless
I had a mapping session at Kits and Classics and didn't see anything like that, but In fairness I was after smoothing out the delivery rather than chasing outright power.
It will be interesting to hear Malcsters feed back in the thread linked above.
For a definitive answer I'd suggest a call to Jason @ Str8six or Jools at Kits & Classics.
