Syncromesh is the method of 'slip-rings' used in a gearbox to enable changing gear wthout matching the engine speed to the road speed for the new gear (ie. you do not need to double-declutch).

This will explain the 5th to 4th problem but not the backfire. Backfires happen when there is unburnt fuel going into the exhaust and igniting there. This can destroy your catalytic converter Causes of backfire vary and I am sure somebody more technical can help you with this, otherwise take it to the dealer.
