Oiling it will delay the wear, the best fix is to get the cable ligned up properly so it doesnt rub, then no need to oil it or replace it!

Mine went about 18 months ago and I have carried a spare ever since, not needed it for mine, but did help out when someone elses cable snapped at Bedford Autodrome!

Quite incredible this one isn't it, I had an S3c which went through 2 cables, I hear Griff's and Chimaeras are prone to it and obviously Tuscans suffer. Why doesn't someone at TVR just sort out the problem once and or all? Rich...

I've just had my 12 month service and when I asked them about this they said that the original mechanism caused excessive wear on the cable. It was replace, under warranty, with an updated system that uses a plastic coated cable and a revised pully mechanism. If you have a Tuscan then you should be able to get this upgrade done under warranty by an authorised service centre.
