My own stupid fault, but on Sunday, in the rain, I hopped out of the car for a moment to shut a gate. Because I was on a busy road, I shut the drivers door. Because I'm an idiot I left the car running.
I had the key fob, but nothing I could do would let me back in....after 40 mins it got a bit hot, ran a little rough, and eventually stalled. Shortly after that the AA appeared and we managed to open one window slightly, at which point the door unlocked.
There was always the option of the secret method, but was wondering if (a) this was normal and (b) what else I could have done....other than not do it in the first place!

I don't have a Tuscan, but on the Griff, just shutting the door shouldn't lock you out.

Even if it did, the secret method would have allowed you to have the keys in your hands in a minute or so. Why did you wait so long?

Sorry to hear of your misfortune I don’t have a TVR so don’t know of this secret method but the moment it started running hot the side window would have been through and it turned off.

Window = cheap
Engine = Not cheap.

I hope you haven’t done too much damage.

I sympathise...happened to me with my DC5 shortly after I bought it..keys in the ignition and running, got out of the car to say goodbye too my folks, and head the central locking click shut.

The spare key and fob were locked in my bag in the boot.

cue 50 mins waiting for the RAC with the car idling away on the drive.

On mine it was a fault between the aftermarket alarm and factory central locking, the car would lock and unlock itself of its own accord, even in the middle of the night with the car totally shut down.

I had the central locking and alarm system separated by an auto electrician, then eventually had a new immobiliser wired in.

I would get an alarm fitter to have a good poke around, chances are something is amiss and relatively easy to sort. Even if not, a new cobra immobiliser is only about £190 fitted.

Now I always leave a window fully down if the car is running and I need to get out of it for any reason.

Sorry to hear the incident. I do that all the time for my manual garage door, but it never locks me out...touch wood. I never slam shut the door. I only shut it with one click, so it holds its position and the window is still down.

I do exactly the same as this, and it also prevents the wind from closing the door if left ajar

Thanks all - normally I’d keep the window down or the roof off but it was raining too hard...
I had it serviced and there is an intermittent fault with the central locking...possibly due to water ingress....
Still..I’ve learnt my lesson!
