Anyone had cause to use the famousse spare tyre, that liddle old can in the boot?

Does it work?
How far and fast can you go when using it?
Do you have to buy a new tyre afterwards?

Not had to use it (yet) but the can tells you how to use it and how fast and how far you can go with it

I think you will need a new tyre afterwards because I believe they cannot repair a tyre that has been "moussed" but then would you want a 180+ car running on a Kwik Fit tyre repair?

"MB." the new name for "Graham and Rosie"

Forget it, I sat in the centre of Market Harborough late one night watching it ooze like toothpast out of the hole and yes, the tyre boys hate the stuff!

Had a blow out near Rome, the stuff is worse than
useless. It doesn't bung the hole and wrecks the
tyre. In addition I can't get the marks off its
left on the wheel.

worse still though is relying on the rac to get a replacment. Got stung bigtime for a new SO3. A
space saver wheel would have been very welcome.

I saw an article on TV (probably TW) a while ago about this stuff that stays in the tyre the whole time. If you get a puncture, a combination of the air pressure within the tyre together with centrifugal force immediately squeezes the stuff into the hole where it sets solid and plugs it. The effect is so quick that no/negligible air pressure is lost and you can continue driving as if nothing happened. Also, the tyre should, theoretically, not require any further repair.

They did the usual type of comparison i.e. standard tyre over a stinger type device then gooey tyre over same spikes, and the result looked pretty impressive.

I haven't heard anything of it since, so I guess it was just another one of these (potentially) good ideas that sinks without a trace.

I think the stuff you are talking about is called "slime". I picked it up from a motorbike shop and it worked pretty well on that tyre so i am thinking it should be just affective for car tyres!!

Never had cause to use the 'Tyreweld' stuff. It is a worry though that if its late at night and you end up with a tear in a tyre or a nail through the tyre wall, what the hell do you do??? I am sure the RAC would be delighted to go shopping for an 18" Toyo Proxey at midnight. Must be a case of RAC/AA Relay all the way home then?
