I have a MK1 Tuscan and the drivers door window has just developed a fault.

The window goes down fine but when being closed intermittently stutters - the fault sounds mechanical. I removed the door card and lubricated the long worm drive (or whatever you call it) but with no real effect.

My gut feeling is it’s the motor part that is faulty, anyone experienced anything similar?

Off to Le Mans in a few weeks and don’t want it failing when I’m away.

Thanks
Richard

Had a similar problem at Spa ...5'ish years ago.

Motor would continue to 'drive' with the door shut and glass up. Pulled fuse in the end...and had to gently bend window edge to clear hockey stick for rest of trip to enter/exit car.

On return to UK got a 2nd hand window lift mech' (new ones unavailable at time) as the helical drive was chewed up. Installed it and got a new encoder...job done.

Thanks sounds a different initial cause but similar pending failure. My gut feeling is the fault is either with the drive spindle or helical loom.

Tricky call, meddle with it now or wait til after Le Mans... scratchchin

Hmmm, I'd say it bears some similar characteristics......

My window dropped fine too, on pushing the door release. Guess it was the weight assisting the glass 'drop'?

However, when I was in the car and shut the door, the motor would lift the glass - - and NOT stop turning. Luckily, we had returned to hotel at this point, so had door card off and removed the encoder which I brought in to the room and spent 1/2 hour with the hotel hair dryer on the encoder PCB...To no avail!

My take on the issue was that the helical drive and/or the 'crown' wheel in the gearbox on the mech' were at a point where there was sufficient wear on each, to allow the torque of the motor to continually drive the window 'UP'.

The continued motor operation then totally chewed the helical flexi-drive.

Guess you could 'wing it', but I'd be tempted to get a new mechanism....the drive motor does lift straight out of the assembly...So see if you can buy without the motor?
