PAS & AC Delete
Discussion
Madness?
This probably stems from my love of Lotus - 'simplify and add lightness'. There's also an element of 'if you don't have it, then it can't break'!
The car is a keeper, so I'm not bothered about what deleting both would do to its 'marketability'. I'd keep the components just in case I ever did sell, so it can be re-fitted.
I wouldn't miss AC. The car is a weekend toy and I live in Scotland! Oh, and the roof comes off! If its hot enough to warrant AC, then the roof is coming off! Thinking about it, the only time I use AC on my daily-driver is to clear the windscreen on damp and cold mornings. I've also owned an Exige and was convinced by the salesman that I HAD to add AC to the order spec as the car would become a furnace. It was a waste of money - yes, it got hot, and no, the roof didn't come off... but the windows open!
I need to be a bit more careful about PAS though. I've driven Chimps and Griffs without PAS and really wasn't bothered. When I go out for a 'just-for-the-hell-of-it' drive, I tend not to pootle about at low speed an awful lot - and I steer clear of cities (see what I did there!
). My wife also drives the car, but she's a farmers daughter - I'm sure she'd cope!
Still, I'd like to hear opinion - does anyone have a non-PAS Tuscan? How do you get on with it?
Cheers

Wait til you get stuck in a long traffic jam in the middle of summer. You won’t notice a few kgs of weight saving but you will notice the sweat pouring off your body, glueing you to your leather seat.
^ This and I wouldn't want to drive one with no PAS. I have mine converted to an electric pump and it's not nice without the pump on.robsco said:
I can confirm that AC is next to useless in a TVR. My T350 AC worked perfectly, it was still rubbish. Stick the car in 35 degree heat in the south of France and it's pretty ineffective.
Mine worked pretty well when we did a run down through France and Spain a few years ago. There were days when putting the roof and ac on was the only way we could keep going in the middle of the day when it was hitting high 30s. LOL... I was just thinking about this tread, and lo... fresh replies!
Yes, my burgeoning man-tits could probably do with some perking. So, PAS delete is still an option - or a push-up bra... think it would look quite attractive with my hairy chest!
Griff and Chim guys seem to cope ok. Real men (apparently!).

Deciding on the steering should be easy enough with a gentle slope and engine off.
I've tried it and think it would turn my manly tits into full on pecs
I haven't had the ac on in about ten years despite using the car a lot in summer in Italy. I much prefer to have the back window out and windows down, but horses for courses. Having said that I am going to have it recommissioned as part of a big refurb just to be able to use it for demisting.

There's a big difference between a manual rack and a pas rack with no pressure! With no pump running, you are having to turn a fluid filled rack by brute force.
Many years ago I had a pas pump mounting break on a Lotus Excel. The RAC, bless 'em, at my suggestion, fitted me with a shorter fan belt required for water pump and alternator to get me home. Coming to roundabouts was an experience, the steering was absolutely solid and incredibly hard to turn. But the models with manual racks were not that bad.
