Just heard from my dealer that the running problems with the car are as a result of stretched valves. She's off to b/pool and i am going to miss the last of the good weather It's a 2000 model and i have just the standard warranty holdings gumph. So yet to find out whether they will pick up the tab. going to miss the car and am pi**ed off hugely but my dealer has been sympathetic and having read some earlier post's i should be thankful for that.

If it's a common fault then surely TVR should be recalling and fixing the problem.

The very first cars had valve stems that were too thin and could lead to stretching dependant on fuel used. The factory tested soley on BP and never had a problem, hence it only appeared after production.

It was picked up quite early and a new head was introduced with stronger stems and reworked seats that cured the problem.

While not a comfort I am assuming your car got overlooked with the old head on. The solution is a straight forward head change and I would try to talk TVR into it assuming the head change was missed in the first place.

I had this problem on my Cerbera Speed Six.

This is a well known and common problem (in other words a manufacturing fault) with the engine.

Hopefully TVR will offer to do the work FOC.
I was looking at a very large bill until TVR kindly offered to do the work for free.

However I did get supremely stiffed by my dealer who said that I had to remove the engine from the car and ship it to Blackpool (on the factories orders). The cost of removal and shippage and re-installation was around £1500.

This turned out to be untrue and it appears they just said this to get some money out of me. I spoke to TVR and they said it I had sent the whole car to them then they would have done the work anyway.

I challenged my dealer about this and they denied this and blambed TVR for the engine removal request.

Basically TVR blambed the dealer, the dealer blambed TVR.... I lost out.

After 10 weeks trying to sort this out I gave up so I could get my car back. The customer service department at TVR decided to handle the problem by ignoring 4 letters and 3 phonecalls a day for several weeks and refusing to get back to me.

I was NOT impressed!

Hope you don't have the same experience as me !

Thank's a lot for the advice one and all ,will be calling tvr once the engine is up there to find out how they want to play it. Dealer has said they will remove the engine without labour charge's. Although the dealer has said that TVR have offered to do a 'sympathetic' bill i will not know until they see it. With only 14K miles i think they should put something this fundamental right for nothing. I mean being without the car for 8-10weeks is surely bad enough. Will keep you posted
