Front Speakers

I want to upgrade the speaker system for my 2001 Tuscan. I've bought 4" drivers to go in the backs to replace the crap ones in there, I've got some 5" drivers plus tweeters to go in the front. I'm not too keen on putting them in the door cards as I want to keep the car as stock as possible. Is there anywhere else people have placed them?

The shape of the door car doesn't leave too much flat space to do anything with other than with a door build of sorts. (or putting it somewhere that looks really wierd!)

I took an old pair of door grabs and converted them to take a pair of 6 inch drivers.

Then added a baffle on the rear shelf, to take a pair of 6 inch components, after filling in the original holes from the 4 inch speakers in the rear quarter panels.

Think I've settled to the fact that the only way to do it is by messing with the door cards. I may look at possibly fitting all 4 in the back though.

It can be done with a very neatly fettled aluminium tube surface on the door the door card.

I was actually thinking of something quite similar however I'm thinking of mounting them on the tunnel in their own surround. This way I don't need to chop anything up and just retrofit it to a stock car.

If you want tweeters in optimum position for sound staging (and an incredibly simple install) on the little bits of leather on either side of the large metal bar going across the Dash - simply put a little bit of velcro tape - another bit of velcro tape on the back of the tweeter - and voila - perfect positioning for sound stage and can even easily slightly angle inwards.

I tried all locations and this was where I found was best and easy as to install - will take a pic when next get the car out.

Original option from the factory on later cars was small flat NXT speakers mounted in each corner of the dash shelf. They are not available aftermarket so I used the same location to mount some small tweeters. They're perfectly placed to fire right at your head which is what you want with a tweeter and they're also virtually invisible. Easily installed once you remove the dash top (a bolt at each end), and it brings the sound stage forward nicely which is all you need them for. Along with upgrading the factory position 4" side speakers, I also installed a flat under seat type sub under the carpet at the front of the passenger footwell to round out the bottom end.

It now makes a decent sound and is a significant upgrade over the basic 2 speakers on each side.

Morning all

I've gone back and read the majority of historical threads on Tuscan (Mk 1) speaker upgrades (not just fronts) and am keen for a view if anyone has undertaken this recently please?

I'm shortly getting the Tuscan fully renovated now she's in her 21st year and whilst I'm not looking for the latest in audio purity, ensuring I've got some decent speakers - which are discrete (i.e. small) but of good quality - is a part of the project. I've settled upon the head unit (a single DIN flip-out model which I know fits in the Mk1), but have less clarity on speakers, especially quality options and even more importantly, ones which fit well in the interior. I'm not personally interested in massive speakers which could jar with the internal lines of the car or require building out false segments of the bulkhead/door to accommodate them.

Any views much appreciated! Many thanks in advance.
