Last year, preparing for the annual drive down to Spain, I booked my Tuscan convertible in for a home visit detailing.
Chap duly arrived and got stuck in, my wife keeping a watchful eye as I was away in India at the time.
Sony wife was reporting back to me about the great job he was doing when, zzzzzzrrrrrrrrpppppp.
He had just started with a scratch remover on the rear when the stitching gave way and a good 12" of screen deprecated from the rear folding canvas section.
This was the Thursday, I'm getting home on Saturday and we were leaving for Spain on the Sunday.
I made a call and managed to find someone who had enough time to do a "quick fix" on the Saturday.
So after landing in Manchester it was pretty much a cars of driving round for the fix.
4 hours later I got the call to collect.
Now bearing in mind I had had a similar problem on my previous Chimaera and that the repair had been excellent by an ex- RR soft top specialist, the "quick fix" had cost nearly twice as much and looked like it had been done by a blind person.
Not straight stitching, didn't stitch through the existing holes, stupid thread colour .
Anyway, I was grateful of the quick repair and so felt it would be crass of me to complain and so duly paid and left.
It's still waiting to have the job re-done but its to be included in a full roof detriment so can wait.

My feelings at the time were that the Detailer was genuinely sorry for his mistake and, as my wife said, "almost in tears".
I didn't blame or expect anything from him as the thread was more or less rotten.
He insisted as way of apology to do a full detail of my CLS.
But on the repair, I feel that it would have been easier to do a decent job but that I should be grateful.

Should I have been harder on the Detailer ?
Should I have complained to the repair person ?
Am I an ungrateful SOB ?

Should I have been harder on the Detailer ? Doesn't sound like it.
Should I have complained to the repair person ? Yes.
Am I an ungrateful SOB ? Not really I guess he charged you for the work especially as it was short notice. Why not give him the chance to do it again properly at his expense, if he does fair enough, if not then he'll miss out on your roof overhaul.

hmm, it's difficult when you ask for a "quick fix" to expect it to be as good as you'd expect someone who is given the normal amount of time. Usually if someone asks for something as a "quick fix" I usually think they mean a temporary solution. Of course if you didn't use those words then ignore this!
