tuscan S or 997 turbo s
Discussion
Still keeping my SC Griff but contemplating getting a 997 Turbo S as ever since seeing a Porsche turbo back in 70,s followoing one around loch lomond in my Lotus cortina said i,d have one one day .
now looking at 997 gen 2 Turbo S but looking at cost etc and thinking can have a Tuscan S rarer beast etc
i,m torn. guess they will be someone out there had experience with both cars. reckon Tuscan will be more a drivers car more involving and rarer wot u think

I had a 996 turbo before my current Tuscan.
The turbo was a truely rapid, cross country, all weather car.
Brilliant at everything, but lacked a certain something......charm??charisma??
Tuscan is nowhere near as capable, but has a huge personality and every journey is an event.
A 997 turbo is a lovely thing, but IMO a better everyday 365day a year car.

I was wondering the same regarding a 996 turbo.
Then I found I kept seeing them around and looking nearly exactly like any other 911 and sounding "meh" I'm definitely happy I went for the TVR! No way I'd drive it as fast as I would a Porsche - but I'm not buying the car to be quickest A to B.

wot i thought, any car i buy will not be everyday car just toy as i live work in singapore get home once every 6 weeks , i thought long term best would be 997 GT2 as itll be a nice weather take out for a spin and will prob hold value better
but to have owned a Porsche Turbo well guess i need to feed my dream
Well the 996 is a great bit of engineering
and as fast as you like once played with but
It was a little too good for its own good, which made it sterile compared to a raw Tvr
chalk and cheese really.
During this wet miserable winter I did miss it a bit if I'm honest, but its not special enough
as a weekend toy.

Conclusion:
997 - you are very fast, car is too perfect, boring after 6 months, so will be thinking to buy a Tuscan
Tvr - you are happy and have always a smile on your face, so you will be happy not have bought a 997
I have had a 996/997S, own now a TuscanS and had always a Corvette C6 beside!
The C6 is another story

Be good to hear your feedback on the C6. I also have a Tuscan S and an Impreza WR1 as the daily drive but now that summer is on the way I am after a convertible daily drive but it needs to be fun and fairly quick. Quite fancy a C6 but unsure of lhd and am also toying with a tuned VX220 turbo which I have had before.997 - you are very fast, car is too perfect, boring after 6 months, so will be thinking to buy a Tuscan

The vx is on the borderline of a daily drive though!
had a well sorted mk2 tuscan s which i sold two years ago for a 997 turbo, i had to change the exhaust from standard as it was too quiet ! now it has a new ecu and a remap it is stupidly quick and handles brilliantly. however driving the tuscan was always an event. i miss the tuscan for the fun factor but i use the porsche more frequently. reliability wise the porsche has been faultless servicing costs are similar to anything high performance or specialised if you use a decent independent.

In terms of sheer straight line acceleration could a Tuscan 2S keep with a 997 turbo? Thanks for all the input youve confirmed my own expectations etc, well ive a couple of Tuscan S coming up to view my indie has 2 possibles soon one a 4.3.
when i get home i,ll test drive a 997 Turbo , luckily i v have a Porkie indie on the doorstep thats Jasmine Porsche in Nelson TVR indie is just oe,r hill. Just on a side note when in states i had a 2012 shelby GT mustang brilliant engine but a bloody hand full on twisty roads but what charecter, when i retire i,ll be shipping in a 2014 maybe with super snake upgrade got to be a future classic and fun .
