why not buy a 25k 2000 tuscan ??
Discussion
Hello guys
Having been away from TVR ownership for a while Im suprised and a little excited to see, what appear to be at least, great value Tuscans for sale.
Im aware of the sometimes engine problems, but really...
why shouldnt I buy a Tuscan at this price?
Keep some back maybe for getting it sorted if necessary.
Cheers for your thoughts.
Andrew.

If you're happy for the engine to possibly/probably go pop, be off the road for a few weeks, get rebuilt, cost you a bit, then give you years of fun, nothing at all.
It's just a question of whether you're in the frame of mind that the car's cost you £25k, or whether it's maybe cost you £28k, but you've still got a £3k engine "balance" to pay on it.
Personally, I'd do it. Hell, I DID do it.

why spend £25 with the possibility of £3k more when you can get one thats just been rebuilt for £22,500?

And so did I

But Andy's comments are also true. Remember it costs a bit to run these things. New tyres are approx £1000 a set and you'll be needing them every 6-10000 miles depending on how you 'lean on' them.
So did I
I can`t believe it`s been 20 months since i bought mine
and yep the same old
stories where around then and will be in 20 months time, fancy Graphs are all well and good if you are going to do something positive with the data
all i will tell you is the PROS more than outweight the CONS buy one now while the residual values have been forced onto the floor, and worry about rebuilds if or when they happen or you could print off the graph and stick it on the dash to monitor as you rack up the miles
The biggest question to ask IMHO is would i buy another???????
I would have to think about that.......... for all of 2 seconds

What on earth are you sticking on your Tuscan that cost a grand a set? A full set of Toyos should be about £650 fitted. SO3s will be a about the same.
As for servicing, my last service cost me about £550...

OK. I approximated ! But once you've had them balanced, re-balanced, laser-aligned, blah, blah, blah it can be a quite expensive job

My only service so far was £650 for the 18k service. I was about to get the 24k service, which I am informed comes out at closer to £1000 but it went bang.
It does appear that valve clearances out to be checked at service, which most don't get done. That would explain a cheaper bill. Unless you are using an independent ....
did the same about 3 weeks ago, breaking my TVR cherry and NEVER had so much fun... although TVRs describtion of Rolex Blue is in fact purple in anyone elses eyes !
need to appreciate PH give the extremes.. if we'd all believe the SP6 debate (mainly by people not owning one) then we'd never buy one and what fun to miss out on...
My only addition to the above is to go through reputable dealer (I used Fernhursts, Hazlemere and brillant post sales support) for the warranty and that gives you the piece of mind an auction purchase doesnt - there will be reasons why its £16k...

I bought a 2000 Tuscan for £25k just over 18 months ago and would again in the blink of an eye. The engine had a full rebuild with new head just before I bought it and has now done another 18k miles with only a clutch slave failure letting me down. Do it.
Re the auction thing, how much discount would you want on say a Ferrari to risk buying one through the block? I'm guessing you wouldn't pay the full private sale value?

Well deserved

But, why does it take you that long to decide you will have another?

I'm selling a £25Kish Tuscan. Probably not the right place to advertise it here, but I can tell you it that its absolutlely spot on, no engine problems, and certainly no nasty service bills that have suprised me. In fact, it has been a remarkably economical car to run considering its starship performance including returning 27 mpg.
These are not exactly cars to run on shoestring budgets, but they can be well maintained for sensible money and sensible insurance premiums can be found too.
I would buy another in the future (but right now my thoughts are tuning towards having a boring daily hack - I know, I know). If I did get another, it would have to come from a good dealer - or a knowledgable owner who has obviously cared for it. Buying any car at auction is a gamble and you don't want a ringer/write off/time bomb to break both your wallet and your heart. Buy with car, and you will never ever regret it. I certainly don't.
