Is there something in the boot? If the lid is forced against the lock then it won't pop up.
Put light pressure on the lid and see if the lock releases.

Is the catch mechanism slightly mis-aligned? Maybe the gas struts need replacing with ones with a greater upward force?
Out of interest, does the boot ever fall down on your head, because if it does then you should replace the struts.

I had a similar problem with the driver side door on my tuscan. There was a little spring in the catch mechanism that will push the door pin out of the catch mechanism (I hope I could explain it properly). This spring was just unhinged.

On my Tuscan its the seals that provide the force to pop open the boot. When I had the seals off, the boot lid was flush. The original seals didn't have any "spring" left in them so when I pressed the boot release/tuscan badge, I had to use my nails to get between the body and the boot lid to lift up the boot. Hope that makes sense?
Cheers,
Martin

As MPETT says, the seals push the lid open. Mine did the same as yours, fitted new seals and now the lid pops up an inch.

I have seen some that have a spring loaded rod near to the lock that pushes the lid open, but I think that was one dealer that fitted them so you may not have it on yours.
