There've been a number of threads over the past few months asking about the Pioneer AVIC-X1 satnav unit & also installing speakers in the doors.
I've put both in my Tuscan & thought some pics might be usefull:

Head unit with screen closed - radio in use in this instance but you'd get voice guidance from the satnav if a route was input.

Screen open, with display in "drivers eye" mode.

Overview

There's also a control box that's part of the system, on my car I've put this under the passenger seat (velcroed to the floorpan, with the carpet cut to fit around it as clearance is an issue here).

Speakers:

I've put a JL Audio 3 way component system in the car, tweeters & 3 1/2" mids in the doors & 6 1/2" bass drivers in the rear bulkhead (in the factory extra speaker option position, with the holes suitably enlarged).
This brings the soundstage forward of the driver, but is not ideal with the bass speakers behind you. It is noticeable but I think it's an acceptable compromise as getting the bass drivers in the doors would need some major surgery.
Amplification is provided by an infinity 4 way bridged into 2 channels giving (IIRC) 75 watts rms each. This is a stop gap until I fit its much more powerfull replacement, I might then add a subwoofer if I can think of a suitably stealthy way of fitting it.
As is the system is powerfull enough to be heard at any speed roof on or up to 120 ish roof off. The sound quality is superb (as it should be with the speakers costing 650quid ) & the installation is almost invisibe to anyone looking into the car.

Door closed

Door open

In the future I'll try & integrate the speakers into the door trim even more, but this does for now.

ooo. that IS nice. custom is definately best if the wallet will take it.

For those not blesses with a pocket deeper than the marianis trench though, check out my build on my website.. cheap powerful speakers in the front parcel shelf. Does the same job. Probably not as good, but as folk that have heard it will testiment too... still pretty cool.

I do live that pioneer though. where do you park your tuscan ?

BTW, TVR appear to have copied your front speaker mounting on the MK2 - tho' I'm not sure that they've enclosed the mids as you have (i.e. it'll sound 5h1t!).

Very nice , I have that system too (sat Nav), but I'd dearly love 2 extra speakers in the doors, but haven't a clue how to do it!!

Leadfoot how deep are the mid's in the doors? I have been looking round for some ,but a bit concerned about them fitting in the available space.

AVIC-X1 looks very good only wish they did it in a silver finish, as black just would no match my Tuscans interior colours.

PS Thanks for the reply on the speed sensor input the dealer is going to sort it on the next service.

the system in My Mk2 is much better than the Mk1 I had but it's not brilliant.

Personally I think car stereo needs to be loud so you can hear it if you want, but I quite like just listening to the engine. The nice stuff belongs in the living room
