...and a happy new year to you all!

Having been sat in the garage for way too long I managed to take my 2000 Mk 1 out in some rare sunshine yesterday and noticed that the digital water temperature read-out rocketed up to about 70 deg. in no time at all rather than the usual degree by degree increase, over quite a few miles, before reaching the nwt. It then stayed around the late 70's, early 80's.

I suspect it's a faulty sender unit - anyone else had a similar experience??

Cheers

Hi Moisture ingress on the connectors can be a problem. Check the temp. reading when cold also does the analogue gauge read about right. Is the coolant water level ok? I had a persistent EFI fault pinging & clearing on the button which was the ECU water temp. sensor. Replaced & reset alarms no faults now. Can you connect a laptop with diagnostic software to check all values? Just a few thoughts. Dave

Thanks Dave, a few pointers there. I spoke to Jason at Str8six today and he says it could be the dash, as he had the same fault on another Tuscan and that's what that was. The coolant is fine and it's stop rising when the normal temp. is reached.
I'm used to how long it should take to reach the right temps. for the revs. so will wait and see if it cures itself in the warmer weather.
Cheers.
