Afternoon all,

I have just fitted a new clutch master cylinder (was damp around the end) and RP slave cylinder. With the box being out i also removed the clutch to inspect - it seemed servicable though the starlock washers on the three dowels were fractured. I fitted new starlock washers then refitted and bled the clutch however i could not get the clutch to release properly, the outer friction plate (gearbox side) released ok but the inner friction plate (flywheel side) hardly releases at all. I have removed the clutch again and refitted the old starlock washers but it has made little difference; i have bled the system several times and it seems air free.

This should have been be fairly straight forward but is now driving me mad!! Anyone ever had a similar issue?
mad

Cheers
Richard

Hi Richard i feel your pain, I have not done a 6 clutch but very similar to a AJP (t5 box and ap clutch as well), I would try to select reverse when stationary see how easy that is should slip in with no drama, if it struggles i would think it could be the spigot bearing a cheap item if you have not changed it already.

Thanks Scotty, the box is still out and i'm using a spigot shaft (which was very kindly lent to me) to test the clutch operation before full re-assembly. I'm going to order bespoke starlock washers from TVR Power next week, if that doesn't resolve it then may have to look at the full clutch.

They can be hard to bleed well. Are you using pedal or pressure bleed?

Pedal bleed; I've bled it several times and have used a large amount of fluid in doing so - simply as despite the fact there has been no visible air coming through i've continued the process to try and and be super sure the system is fully purged.

Could it be to do with the inevitable dents/pits that the spings make in the mounting face ? They seem to get pretty deep...wonder if it messes up the tension somehow ? Havent studied mine yet but I'm considering a quick spot of MIG to fill them then grind back...nice hard steel rather than the obviously soft stuff the flywheel is made from
