As above really, I have a garage 8m x 7m x 2.4m tall, 3 bar heaters on stat around the walls which come on at around 7C, garage is detached and walls and doors insulated, thought a dehumidifier would be good for the coming winter. Having had a look into it though I would appreciate so advice, what type and size should I go for, should it be compressor driven there are electro pelter types around, what tank size they seem to size the unit on tank size, what functions should I be looking for? Humidity control, timer, power consumption?

Disclaimer: Not an expert on the subject. But I've had one of these - http://www.dry-it-out.com/ruby-dry-amber-dry-dh600... - running regularly for the last two years and it's been great. And if you've got access to a garden or drain, then use the continuous drain function to save having to empty the tank.

Not quite what your looking for but in-case people are interested:

A certain home do it yourself store does small un-powered dehumidifiers. very useful to keep moisture away during storage or absorb moisture after a leak however only advisable for small volumes aka Car interior or boot.

I personally used this in the boot after a leak had been rectified.
Boot = dry, Humidifier = full of water, Me = happy!!

One of these, the refrigerant ones last a year or 18 months max. These work well, they also output warm air so heating the room.

I've had medium size dehumidifier in the garage for nearly 20 years now. (You probably can't buy that model these days.) Capacity is around 8 litres, from memory, and it needs emptying every 2 or 3 days at this time of the year, depending on how low you set the humidity. Much less during the summer months, although even then we have humid days. Also prevents surface rust on tools etc during the winter months. Worth its weight in gold!!!
