Hello everyone, i have to come clean.. i been spying on u guys for the last week, since i decided to buy a tuscan that is! so i have to thank everyone for all the info on here. been reading most of the posts!! anyway i test drove my first tuscan from the tvr centre.. up for 27995 2001 Y 15k on the clock but thats a bit too expensive for me and seeing some posts on here i think it could be over priced...
so today i did a wider search on autotrader and found the one above its up in West houghton, Lancashire.. what do you people make of it.. i love that interior but obviously i dont wanna buy a lemon!! is it too cheap? specialy from a dealer... is it wise to purchase from a none specialist dealer? i mean look at the autotrader add they have.. it says ABS??!! so obviously they are talking out of their backside...
anyway i'm heading out to get pissed on this fine sat night so i hope by tomorrow afternoon when i crawl back to my computer i would have a few replies...
thanks

When I spoke to the TVR Centre earlier in the year about a used Tamora, the reply at the time was everything is open to negotiation.

I have to say personally, that the car you have found does look to be cheep. Others may have a different view.

It does look cheap from a dealer...either they took it in cheap themselves and dont know what they are selling (good for you) or its maybe Cat D insurance job and they failed to put that in the ads.

Id give them a call...if its a genuine car and everything checks out OK then its a bargain

With early cars in the privte ads fetching 20 k or under this looks about the right price assuming it's a 2000/early 2001 car? early tuscans in the trade are like early cerbies, no-one wants them and they may have given as little as 16k for that in p/ex (assuming an early car that is)

the non-standard seats will knock the price down a bit (don't look very well covered to me) .. but could look great if recovered..

bid them 20k with a warranty and get it, do usual HPI checks and get the name of the previous owner .. if all checks out might be a good buy

I disagree slightly, £20-21K for an X/Y reg is still very cheap - especially from trade. I think it is right to be suspicious and I, personally, would never buy any TVR unless I can be 100% sure of its provenance. The 3 golden rules of Tuscan purchasing are:

1. NEVER buy without all the history and speaking to the previous owner
2. See 1.
3. See 2.

As ever, don't be too quick to put your money down because you fall in love with a car. Drive a few first and do your homework - including getting a copy of the Tuscan buying guide.

The prob;em here is the Tuscan 2 is now out in dealers. This is causing a glut of Tuscans on the second hand market. I think that as 25k miles £20k is probably slightly high.
Mine has 7k miles and is only worth £30k, miles is a killer on secondhand values.

My opinion only....

Or if you cant speak with the previous owner speak with the garage who has maintained it...

All the best.

Would expect you to lose about £1k per 10k miles in depreciation on a Tuscan of that vintage. I.e. one with 30k miles being £2k cheaper than one with 10k miles. Maybe it SHOULD be worth more if it's REALLY low mileage. But that'll just mean it's (probably) waiting on a rebuild, which people are starting to get wise to...

Know I'd rather buy my car with 25k & full, recent rebuild than one with 10k on the clock and no rebuild to date (assuming we're talking 2000-2002 vintage cars).

I have found the thing with what i like to call super cars is that you have a very limited market.

I have owned a TVR Tuscan and i keep looking on here to see if anyone has bought it. It was a pathfinder blue 2000 model in immaculate condition with spiders AC etc. It had only done 14,000 miles with FTVRSH and an engine rebuild at 8000. The only slight problem was that the display had a few lines which had stopped working. I part exchanged to Harwoods Land Rover in Surrey for the measley sum of £20,000 but i did get 5K off the land rover so it depends on which way you look at it.

People selling Tuscans tend to fit certain criteria.
1. Children have arrived and need something more practicle or they have recently become attached and the wife won't drive it. (Bit sexist i guess.)
2. Have now realised they can't afford to run it for whatever reason, lost job or bad planning.
3. Looking to buy a newer one.
4. Had a bad one and wish to change marque.

Most people that own them are quite affluent and lazy and would rather PX than sell privatly. I lost £9,000 in a year on mine because i was lazy but have to say i am not bothered as it was easy.

I think it is a great car to phone around privatly to find someone who would take a very low offer as due to a lot of bad press and people that are running low on cash will take good offers just to get rid.

When i buy my next one i will definatly phone around and find someone who needs the cash.

I produce the Tuscan Buying Guide. It’s a 16 page checklist of things to look for and checks to make when buying a second hand Tuscan.

I update it fairly regularly so please email me through my profile if you'd like a copy of the latest version.
