The drivers door window is slowly developing a mind of it's own/intermittent fault. Turn the knob to raise the window and it lowers, after a couple of goes it will normally raise. Last week it went all the way down and would only close using the central locking - keen to address this before I get caught out!!

Anyone else had similar issues?

Cheers

Not had quite this problem, but, first off, I,d remove door card, remove the window encoder on top of motor...and give the encoder and its plug a spray with WD40 or equivalent.

If this does not sort problem, I,d swap the window ecu,s (found under the centre console by ashtray area). You might also check the smooth/correct operation of the window lift button, seeing as it will be visible with the console lifted off tunnel.

Swapping ecu,s should transfer problem to passenger side?

Most likely the window encoder on the window motor. As well as the ECU under the centre console you should check the door micro switch. If it is the window encoder and it won't come back to life with contact spray you can get one for about £25 off eBay.

I've just had to replace the switch rotary encoder as one of the legs (from the switch into the pcb) had broken. I ordered a couple of new ones from RS and soldered the new one in. Now works beautifuly. Had issues with the micro switch arm being loose and not fitting such that it was triggered by the latch engaging with the pin. I used 2 washers behind the microswitch to rise the switch up a bit. If oyu need any help I'd be happy to skype.

Cheers,
Martin

Removed the door card and cleaned all multi plug connections, also removed, cleaned and refitted the encoder (made by Tina 07-04-03 smile). No change to the issue so going to swap some of the window controls in the centre console. To remove the console there are the obvious self tapper screws but are there also fixings under the car?

Thanks

Nope, just the two at the front, then another under the little air vent at the rear.

Have you tried swapping the window encoder from the passenger door? Might just be that your encoder has "died".

I'd personally try swapping the ECUs over first. Takes less than a minute to get the centre console off where as the door cards are a bit more hard work.

Ok, fault found following component swap overs; issue is with the rotary control switch. Have given a squirt with WD40 but unlikely to solve the problem.

A call to either HHC on Monday to price a replacement or maybe Douglas Valley Breakers.

On a brighter note just fitted shiney new un-baffled bespoke stainless steel end cans - what a noise.... hehe
