Went to put the Tuscan in the garage tonight and for some reason the car took off down the bypass. Happens a lot the wife says.
On the way back a bike sat close behind me. We negotiated the roundabout and he was still there. Surely he wanted to see how the Tuscan went. Pedal to the floor from second left him behind and now he decided to play. Up through the gears on the gear change lights, through to fourth and still accelerating when the car started to move all over the road, unfortunately at the point the bike was overtaking. It was so violent that I oould not let go of the steering wheel to change into fifth gear, so bottled out The biker slowed at the next roundabout to make eye contact. I was not sure if he was acknowledging the cars performance or thinking the t---er tried to run me off the road.eek
Anyhow, I am aware of the spacers to help stabilise the car but wondered if it I possible to lose total control of the car when it gets into the twitchy wander.
Any similar experiences

I've wondered this too and it feels totally possible. Also, say you had a massive flat open space with nothing to hit and you got up to say 150mph and then lost control, do you think you could end up flipping over?

By the way, my car felt similar until I replaced the original shocks with new ones. Made a hell of a difference.

I did warn you, Steve, that the mark Is a beast you have to play nicely with. biggrin

Now you see what I mean.

Unfortunately, I think the stock of spaces was sold out now. Try Jason at StrSix. He was the guy selling them.

I had that feeling in my Tusc. It one of the reasons that I am happier going fast in my 25 year Alpine than I was in the Tuscan. Because of this I reckon the Alp would be as quick from A-B on anything other than straight roads.

Other Tuscs I have driven are similar (haven't driven a Mk2)

you can make them much much more stable, so much so 100+ is effortless.

But yes i reckon it could lose control, of course, if you have some unexpected bump steer at silly speeds it could well end in tears imo.

Fitted the 3mm spacers to the 18" wheels, which has 230x40 Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres.

What a difference. Maximum acceleration from standing start to 110mph - totally stable.spin

I am enjoying the car again. Well spent £21

I can recommend it

Have done this mod also, but when you are hard on the brake, the problems are worse than before, because
the car will not hold the line on uneven roads.
Then you will be really scared because you cannot control it.
Try it and tell us your results!

I have lost my MK1 exactly with your mods.

What mod are you talking about that resulted in your car being so unstable under braking that you consequently crashed it?

Sure it wasn't driver error? wink

Sure no mistake, had car 5 years already, was a very early Mk1.
tried a lot to get him stable, spacers,Gaz Golds, 225/40 front, different aligments+tires!
was under higher speeds always twitchy.
Spacers will only give you the suggestion it is better now, but under hard braking on uneven roads bump steer was worse than before, so as title of this topic, it was most "SCARY"
Now my new Mk2 is another world!
