air con off air con on
Discussion
Air con was not working so I took it to the dealer who checked it over and told me the gas needed doing. Thought this was strange on a under 2yr car, but they said they do not have the facilities to charge the bottles up. So I called a local bloke out who said the cluch was not engaging on the air con and by-passed the switch from the battery, hey presto the air con worked. He checked the gas and levels were spot on. Tried to phone TVR to find out which fuse the air con goes too, twice, (never returned my call), so looked at each one individaully and all seemed fine.
NOW, drove for an hour (with roof off) and suddenly click the air con came on(always leave the switch in the on position in hope), got to my destination, returned to car and air con does not work again. I.e it only comes on after (sometimes) I've been driving a long time. Any idea chaps as I hate going all the way to the dealers for them to guess.

When you say, you bypassed the switch from the battery, do you mean that you ran a supply directly to the clutch on the compressor, or just linked out the pressure switch?
If there is no gas in the system, ie no pressure, then the pressure switch will not operate and neither will the air con!
You know that you have got pressure, so maybe the pressure swich is playing up! Try linking the switch out first, to eliminate that!
Also check your relays! Don't know about the Tuscan, but on the Griffith, the air con relay is the same type as the cooling fan and horn relay, so maybe try swapping these over!
Good luck

This is may sound stupid..... but my Tuscan heater and fan controls forget what they should be doing every time I switch the engine off and restart.
Everytime I get in the car and turn on the ignition I spin the nobs and then set them to the position I want. i.e. full cold, AC on and full fan on. If I don't do this nothing happens. AC doesn't work and fan doesn't start...

I've tried all sort of settings and eventually setteled on turning everything on to max (fan & heat) with the air-con turned on. Once the system found it's proper high setting you could succesfully adjust down as desired.
This works for my car and the air-con is great, prior to this a tempramental and fustrating load of rubbish.
