Leaky front windows

Today is the first day I have driven my new (18 month old) Tuscan in the rain. When I viewed and test drove the car the dealer pointed out that the wing mirror controls were in the new position half way along the door rather than the earlier position towards the front of the door which used to be affected by leaks. What he didnt tell me was the the door/windows still p**s water all down the inside of the door when it rains (Cant blame him for not knowing though as it has been rather dry recently).

Now I know why the door pockets are not sealed along the bottom; it is to let the water out!

Does anybody know if there have been any mods which stop this water ingress?

My Tuscan is Aug 2001 car and it has no leaks at all so they must have changed something. Not sure what but someone will know.

That is the sort of comment I want to hear. I am taking it back to the dealer on Monday to get this and a few other things sorted so I shall point it out to them that it is possible to have a non-leaky car as when I mentioned it to them today they said that they do leak to some extent.

My 2002 Tuscan also leaks from the front of the driver's door when I drive it in the rain. It's at a point where two seals join so I can see why it leaks there. I think that a tiny amount of silicone sealant on the join would fix the problem.

as far as I know TVR do not "water leak test" the cars before they leave the factory. Obviously they fit the seals etc correctly, but it is up to the dealer and the customer to fine tune them to ensure no leaks. My June 00 Tuscan RR initially leaked badly from the roof, but after some "fine tuning" from my dealer and a new roof from the factory, now it does not leak. My Chimaera 500 was fine from day one.

SEE "LAST STRAW" !One of our many problems- tissues seem to work for short journeys- Logic TVR dealership in fife has problems with fixing minor and major problems- no surprise the seals were still leaking having sent it to them for repair.!!

Hi David,

I read your "Last Straw" post yesterday. I sympathize heavily with you as the shine of having such a unique car has been dulled dramatically by your problems. Nobody should have to put up with what you have particularly with a new car.

Out of interest, have you had a TVR previously, and hence know about the TVRs reliability issues? Were you warned that there were likely to be idiosyncrasies when you bought the car?

My friend who is the service manager of the dealer I bought my Chimaera and then my Tuscan from did his best to warn me about them. It didnt put me off and when things do go wrong I go in with the attitude "I knew this sort of thing would happen, but could you see what you can do to fix it please?"

Paul thanks for your comments re last straw- I accept that cars like these may have some idiosynchracies, and did buy it with this in mind! However idiosynchracies which could potentially be life threatening- doors opening when driving, windcsreen wipers crossing in a rain storm on the motorway combined with brake light failure, and jumping out of gear at speed is something I do take very seriously.To be fair- no one told us it would be like this!!!PS Hav e had a 30 year old MG which was much more reliable!

Invest, I totally agree. I got rid of my tuscan in Jan after 18months of problems. I had a chim 500 from new for two years before the tuscan and never had any serious problems and it was a joy.

I finally got rid of the tuscan due to a number of reasons including, catching fire, 3 dented wheel rims, permanent leaks, door aligment needed attention every five minutes, blown gearbox + lots lots more.

Its a shame as it put TVR's reputation back another 5 years.

Sounds like the Tamora's are a lot better built though, so I may wait a couple of years and then get one, or wait for the new lambo or aston.
