thinking of buying tuscan
Discussion
I've had 3 TVR'S in the past an S1, Grif 4.3, and a cerbera 4.2. I vowed I would never buy another TVR after I got done for speeding, luckily 98 mph, £600 fine, 5 points, and then the cam shaft went on the cerbera. The engine spent about 5/6 weeks in Blackpool. Anyway I'am getting the itch again, looked at Porsche 993, no passion! Had a 300ZX once, so possibility of a NSX? Test drove a Tuscan a few days ago, usual TVR probs, seat belt would not work! Poss. prob with the drivers door. I would value anyones opinions on their Tuscans, cars that are over one year old if poss. as usually the first cars of a new model tend to be a bit "developMENTAL".
Traded my Cerbera for a 2000MY Tuscan 4.0 a two months ago. Delighted with it. It feels much better screwed together overall than the Cerbera. Bought mine from James Birby @ TVR-MADS and have been delighted with his service. Few niggly problems, things like bonnet catches etc, but otherwise fine. I am in danger of putting too many miles on at the moment. It had 6k on when I bought it and I am already above 9.5 !!
I had a 2000 W reg very early Tuscan for a year, like you I have had several TVR's previously, so was prepared for the usual problems. Despite being a very early car, I did not experience any major problems with it (engine rebuilds, gearboxes etc) however, I had bucket loads of "small problems" which meant in 1 year of ownership it spent about 8 weeks wit hthe dealer. I have just sold it and gone back to a Griff 500, which I chose over buying German (993).
The Tuscan will be a fantastic car when TVR sort out the problems and listen to their customers. If you get a good one life will be great, buy a bad one ( I know one owner on his 3rd engine rebuild and 3 gearbox) and you will pull your hair out.
The residual values are v.poor at the moment due to concerns over the engine problems, and I know from the Yahoo group on the net that there is much speculation over TVR's future given the problems they have had with particularily the speed six engine and the AJP lump.
Hope this has helped (probably hasn't!)good luck

Why on earth is it a closed shop??? What's the point of having a forum for Tuscan owners if membership is restricted? I've been using PH to do my research, and welcome both positive and negative comments on the car, so I can make an informed decision. Without sharing information, it soon becomes pointless having it, IMHO.

p.s. At the time, when the tuscan e-group list was set up most of the interesting chat here on Pistonhead's Tuscan section disappeared.

There was a long winded answer why the group was initially closed but I can't remember why now!
Any owner, or potential owner (ie. anyone) should be able to join the group.
I'm not involved with the group anymore but, periodically in the past the question of open or closed group was put to the vote. So far you know the result.
Mike.
