Just after a little advice...

I have been looking into a Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera. It has been built from a 1986 shell (using 1986 engine, box & running gear), but because this shell had no ID, the ID from a 1972 shell has been transferred to it (free road tax !). It has had a 964 kit fitted to it and looks the part, but I am concerned about whether I should go for such a car, or whether to steer well clear of it ?

All advice much appreciated.

Cheers

Unless your budget is very, very low, or the work very, very good, I would stay well away from it.

You can get original LHD 3.2 Carreras for about 8k these days, LHD C2s from about 12k. The resale on these will be strong, the resale on your 'bitsa' wholly dependent on an interested buyer. You may be stuck with it for a while, come selling time. No dealer will p/x etc.

I would be interested to see how much they want for it. Not a penny over 6k, I hope.

All IMHO.

They were exactly my thoughts as well.

The car is up for £9,950 which I thought was a little high. However, it has had a reconditioned gearbox, clutch, new brakes & full re-trim inside.

Perhaps the LHD route maybe a safer way to go.

Sounds quite nice for what it is, but a bit pricey for something with such a strange provenance ad haphazard resale in the future. A nice 1988 3.2 Carrera (G50 gearbox) in LHD would be a better bet, or save a couple more grand and get a 1990 C2.

All the best, whatever the decision.

Gotta agree with Domster on that one, when you consider that C2s are available from £12k there's no comparison. Oh, and don't let the LHD bit put you off, these cars in LHD have a 'set' resale value unlike most other makes. Porsche owners like their cars to be as original as possible, fact of life so I'd avoid anything which is going to give you definite trouble when it comes to selling.
