I am a little confused (easily achieved).

While looking at various adverts for 996's I come across cars described as C2S Tiptronic S or C2S Tiptronic or C2 Tiptronic or C2 Tiptronic S (theses could be C4 as well). Are there two versions of the Tiptronic gearbox? Are some people advertising "C2 Tiptronic S" when it is a C2S with a Tiptronic gearbox?

I am not necessarily looking for a Tiptronic car but just want to understand exactly what is being advertised.

On the 996 cars at least, there is no variation of the Tiptronic cars.

The only 996 that was available as a S variant was the 996 C4S coupe and Cab.

On older 911's the Tiptronic system was either standard or S. The S denoted that you had steering wheels switches for changing gear as well as the convential stick-shift/selector.

It is also probably worth pointing out that the 996 C4S has no extra power over any other 996.

Thanks nbetts

So on all 996 Tiptronic cars they have the wheel mounted change buttons?

I apologize for my confusion over C2S as I have also been looking at 993 C2S and that seems to be where I have become muddled.

I was aware of the 996 C4S not having any extra power. I do wonder what makes the C4S so close in value to a 996TT when there is 100hp difference and better spec.
