Hi, does anyone know how to remove the gearknob on a 996?
A hacksaw works on most cars! Seriously, if you mean the actual gear knob not the gear lever you may find it simply just screws off.
There are 2 clips holding the surround in place-at the sides-towards the handbrake end.Slide something between console and surround to undo these the front 2 clips will then follow. Then basically pull it off.If it hasnt been off before it will be v.tight..fnarrr fnarr and all that..
The gearknob is held by a allen screw ,If you pull the cover right up you will see it.Allso you can slighty adjust the height of it with this.

No evos right just forgot to mention the screw,Trust me.
cheers mate much appreciated
They dont all have the screw, some are just a push fit.
The standard one on my TT was a push fit, the replacement with silver horseshoe has a screw
Changed the gear knob in mine few weeks ago (996 C2 1998). Old one just pulled off. New one just pushed on but also had the allen screw to tighten up to hold in place.

Replaced mine (98C2) with one from a 2001 TT-no screw on either!-just pulled.
