Seems as though my 911 996 battery has died. I am under Porsche warranty. Need to change it but wanted advice as to where I could go for best price and service around Manchester / Cheshire area. If I go independent is this likely to affect my warranty?

Thank you,

M

do it yourself.

Porsche will charge you something like 400 quid to do it.

I went to Euromaster ATS, got a Bosch 75A for 75 quid, changed it myself in 5 minutes (and im a numpty)...

He really is, took him two whole days to pluck up the courage to do it, but he got there in the end

Sorry Fidg, but if you summoned up the courage I think anyone on here can do it.

www.eurocarparts.com they do a Lion brand one for as little as £22 but better to buy the Bosch silver for around £50. You should be able to do it with the car's own toolkit.

No need to be sorry... I really am useless - 4 years of having a lexus and I practically forgot how to any general maintence on a car - plus the whole 'expensive 911' thing had me terrified... Though it only took an hour to summon up the courage to do it, it took the 2 days to find the damn battery! hehe

and for no good reason.

I got a Bosch Silver 7HN (75AH) battery from ATS Euromaster for 75 quid - same price (inc VAT) as Euro Car spares - its the same size as the Porsche battery, so fits nicely.

As you say, Porsche quote over 200 quid for theirs, and one member said they said they'd have to fit it, so theres the best part of 500 nicker!

All you do is put the key in the ignition to click 1 (stops alarm going), leave the door open and the boot open till all is finished (just for safetys sake), detach the old battery (take negative off first) take off the clip on the left of the battery (10" socket will do it) slide the battery to the left, up and out.

Put new one in, brace with clip, reattach terminals (positive first) and the little vent hose.

even me, who is a self confessed numpty when it comes to fixing cars found it a doddle. If your really worried, have someone there to help hauling the battery out (bad angle) and to hold the terminal while tighening, but I did it on my own with no dramas..
