I'm just about to pick up my 996 Targa - I've read a lot about 996's problems on these pages - has anyone actually got one that hasn't needed something doing to it over the last year or two...or should I expect at least some (hopefully less costly) problems..?!!!

There must be some hope.....somehwere...

I think WetWipes did 20k with no issues...

my '98 with 85k only needed a new battery, which could happen to any car really..

Ive done over 15k in 9 months in my 996 - mileage is now over 110k and its never missed a beat - Ive sort of stopped worrying about the engine problems I keep hearing about - I've also stopped worrying about the depreciation once they hit 100k. Buy it and enjoy it

My 1998 C2 was faultless for 2 years, only needing a couple of wear & tear items that any car of that mileage would need.
My C4S was faultless too and my Turbo has run without any issues at all for nearly 3 years.

Remember the people with problems shout a lot louder than the people with no problems !!

I've had 4 different 996's in 5 years, they were all admittedly low mileage cars, but no problems apart from 1 'very' small oil leak between them.....

It seems the people with problems do shout the loudest - it's good to hear that it's not a forgone conclusion that it'll go wrong!

Having said that it'll probably go pop on the way back from the OPC...

Had mine 3 months and 3000 miles - not missed a beat (except it has got faster now that it only does long runs after the previous owner only used it in town!

Bad news travels faster than good and is more interesting.

Take what you read on here with a pinch of salt, you've got to be very unlucky for a low mileage engine to go pop.

I've had my 996 C2 a year now but I'm ashamed to admit only doing 3k miles but they were absolutely faultless miles!

no worries here either, done 12k in 15 months, driven daily and never missed a beat. Had some pads/disks/tyres but thats just normal wear n tear.

Coming up on 12 months from my 2001 C2

Don't use mine everyday, bit of toy really, but not a single problem. Just had a sports exhaust fitted and it's completely changed the car. Should be happy for another 12 months............Unless a nice Mk1 GT3 comes along cloud9
