Just drove the 997 gt3 on track for the first time today... what a car savage grip with the cups.. left 996 gt3 mk2 for dead.... good bit faster in a straight line also...
Whereabouts? Assume somewhere in Ireland as that`s apparently where you are!

The most important component in making a car quick around a track is the nut behind the wheel. Schumacher could pilot a 996C2 quicker than I could a 997GT3 - that doesn't mean a 996C2 is 'faster', just faster with him behind the wheel....
Most literature suggests there isn't a great deal between 996&997 GT3 iterations in terms of ultimate track speed, but that the 997 is a better road car and 'easier' (more stable at the limit) to handle on; ultimately non-racers can extract better times from it due to the increased confidence factor.
Nonetheless, on balance the 997GT3 is still the best car I've driven
