Hi
I am sure you could hardly tell the difference on the road (assuming it is dry), but I notice 911&PW shows the C4 as slightly faster to 60, anf IIRC slightly higher top speed?

Anyone know which is faster?

Strange as they have the same power but C4 is heavier?? In the dry, i would have put my money on the C2.

same engine.

C4 weighs more due to front axel and driveshaft.

Theorectically the 4WD will provide more grip from a standing start.

But lets face it, unless your wanting to melt the clutch, your never going to be hammering it enough to discern any real difference.

Would have thought the C2 would be fractionally faster - isn't it a bit lighter due to being 2wd?
That said 4wd should get the power down better in all but perfect situations.

C4 able to use full throttle away from the line without wheel spin/PSM intervention. It will be the same out of 2nd gear corners.

Top speed is a factor of power over cD times cross sectional area, not weight. It should be the same but the C4 heavier front end will feel more planted at max speed.

Now in the wet...

When I had mine and it was going to have a new clutch and was due some new tyres, so I thought I'd have a little bit fun.

Couldn't spin the wheels in first, just gripped. As for spinning the wheels in second.. nuts

I always assumked the C2 would be faster and it is but according to our on car dyno - the C4 performs and produces the power stated in the manual etc but the C2 is faster and also records more bhp. This is because we are using the same resistance rating for both in the calculations - so obviously the extra power predicted is actually the reverese of the extra resistance in the power train (we already adjusted for the weight).

It means that no one was mislead because the C2 produces more than stated (according to our results).

We only use the system anyway as a comparator so we are not really interested in the actual figures or arguments about them but they do show the C2 as the faster car.

I assume there was a good reason to promote 4 wheel drive sports cars in some markets to counter the reduction in drivers abilities and increase in the drive slowly for safety lobby and that if the extra performance of the C2 was publicised it might knock sales of the 4 wheel drive dirivative.

Having said all that many drivers would be able to drive the C4 quicker due to their own inexperience and the better traction provided.

There is only about 10bhp pr tonne difference between the two & truth is there is zip difference in the performance in the real world unless it is very wet & then the 4wd car should gain an advantage!

since when did this turn into a "i can piss higher than you" competition?

both are fantastic cars, different in their ways but so acomplished in every way that none of us mere driving mortals would be able to exploit one cars abilites over the other

I do not know about 996 but have ordered the 997 C4 as I found the C2 nose light in the strong winds we get around the Cape!Acceleration times for us non Fangio's are academic.

... I'm very happy with my C2. But having had a selection of 4wd cars in the past (Audi Quatto, Celica GT4, Imprezza) you can be sure that in snow the 4wd versions will be much quicker to accelerate .... but the problem is they all take the same time to stop !!

From here

The in-gear times of the C2 are much better than the C4.

C2 all the way baby!
