Have been offered laughable trade-in for a (mega-spec, low miles) 996 C4 Cab.

Was really hoping to upgrade to a 996 C4S, but the best trade-ins are being offered by my OPC, and hence, the new vehicles are pretty expensive, though come immaculate and with warranty etc.

So, I'm now a firm believer that there is 911....................then everything else, but now I don't know if I can justify one.

So, the options are:

1. Keep the 996 C4 Cab (fabulous car, but hate the Tiptronic)
2. Trade up to a 996 C4S (but have to pay the same again!)
3. Sell, get raped, and go for an M3 (but look like a Charver)
4. Sell, get raped, and go for a classic (not 911!) for a couple of years 'till 997s become sensible

also:
1.Would love a 993 as they're my favourite, but to pay £10K more than a 2000 996, I don't think so!
2. Would consider a 964, but again, I'm back in classic car mode....

Yours, shafted.

If the car is mega-spec and low mles, why not try something in the classifieds here? Relative to the offers you've had from the trade, how much worse can things get? Stick a realistic price on it and see what happens? Anyone looking for a C4 Cab is probably going to be ecstatic that it's a Tiptronic, so if anything it'll help your chances.

The trade look in to classifieds here also, increasing the possibility of a quick "out" if a trader wants your spec.

ot learn to use the tiptronic properly. They are pants if you just stick them in "D" and drive around. If you drive the car 'as intended', they are very competent - more competent than all but the very best drivers.

If you mean to drive the car 'as intended', then just stick it into 'D' and drive around. If you take the time to follow the advice of the guys that somehow love tips, and apply all of the principals and techniques that they recommend to get the car to drive like a manual (I know...I know..... as if), then you'll find yourself wondering why in the name of Christ you didn't just buy a manual to start with as it would be less effort. And never mind left foot braking - you can do that in a manual just as well as you can in a Tip. No. If you want to pretend that Tip is some brilliant but tragically misunderstood piece of cog-swapping wonder, then I think those sentiments would be better recieved on the Mercedes forum. It is their gearbox after all, and they don't know any better given most of them wouldn't know what to do with a gearstick if their lives depended on it. Sorry - I know it's Pavlovian by me, but I fecking hate Tips, and when we have a poor sod here trying to get out of his, the last thing we want is for him to be told is that he's the problem, not his car.

Not sure you are.

A well looked after 964 is a better bet than a run of the mill 993 from a maint, servicing and value perspective. You can use it every day, not worry about the mileage and have a rare porker on tap, 16 - 18K and you should pick up a belter with an engine rebuild and all the normal replaceables replaced. bank on 1.5 - 2.0 K a year maint and bills, but you'll lose next to nothing on depreciation.

They sound great, feel like a Messcherschmit and look old school cool.

Yes, but he is concerned about losing a shed load of cah in depreciation. I am merely offering him a compromise that may enhance is experience.

My 'proper' advice, of course, is to get a GT3!
