Am I right in thinking that these cars are fairly bomb proof in terms of future depreciation? Bit speculative I know but based on past trends would you say it's a fair comment?

Well they've been going up a fair bit of late. Whether or not this is sustainable, who knows? Getting to the point where they intersect with early GT3s which have downward pressure on them from above.

I would have thought they are very different beasts , the RS supposedly being much less suited to being a road car? Their influence on each others residuals may not be all that interconnected... Just a thought..

There's some fairly optimistic prices out there.

One of the reasons I was interested, reckon they're a fairly safe bet depreciation wise.

The prices of quite a few specialist and classic cars have risen in recent years.

The 964RS is not blue chip collectable. Prices have been pushed up because they have an enthusiastic following.

However, if the economy stumbles, which must be inevitable at some point, there will be a correction in values.

Buy a car with the expectation that you will lose money, then you'll never be disappointed

as long as bankers get big bonuses...

Bought one a few months ago, and it was a very good investment! (i already sold it).

They are in a certain way the essence of the 911: looks, exclusisivity, soul, performance.

I would say: search carefully before you commit. They are phenomenal cars when used in the proper situation (club / track).
They are very particular and do not think of them as 'good looking porsches to potle around'!

The community of people that goes with it is amazing.

The RHD is a rare beastie --- 63 lightweights and 7 touring Worldwide ?

LHD was common (1800+ ?) but with the economy improving in Europe I believe it's from there that prices are now squeezing upwards quite quickly.

There's quite a bit on the PCGB forum about this ...

As regards road use --- I have an Audi A2 with sports suspension which is more crashy, and a GT3MkII which is very little different.

They do feel extremely nimble and rather quick.

simple if uk house prices crash you'll lose money. same as any other 'investment' like fine wine. and a well set up slightly modded rs is more than a match for a gt3 on track - don't underestimate its ability to put a smile on your face like no other 911

They made over 2000 in lhd. I personally think their values are overheated - stories of £40k+ lhd cars are not uncommon - whether they sell at those prices though?...what I do know is that the trade is offering very strong money for cars - £36k was recently bid for one for example.

You can always tell when a car is off the scale - the TLA "POA" is appended to all descriptions....

bought one a few months ago myself...considering the enthousiasm of fellow Porsche-maniacs, friends and relatives I don't think prices will drop very soon.

Air-cooled Porsches will grow to a cult-status over the years and the prices of RS-models will raise...the sound of such a 2.0S, 2.2S, 2.4S, 2.7RS is unique...let alone that from a tweaked 964/993RS with cup exhaust...it's amazing and you'll never reach that sound from a water-cooled GT3...it's also awesom, but not the same as from an aircooled RS.

By that, the 964RS has very very clean looks...deep, small body, no spoilers, available in some great colors like mint-green, rubystone and maritime...it's a (future) classic!!!

Nope - even he's guilty of "POA" these days...I always thought that the CS was the one to go for - guy who bought mine sold it to buy a mint green CS...nice cars. I'm sure you're right on the 993 RSCS - "Clubsport" must be sitting pretty eh

Must link up soon mate beer
