There are better oils available than Mobil 1 but for the purposes of keeping Porsche happy you had better stick to what they recommend.

There's a long list of recommended/warranted oils to chose from but the simple answer is not what you put in the old engine

Different car but I've been using Castrol Edge (previously RS) in my race car and after a full season plus track days the engine is putting out all the power it should and there was nothing whatsoever on the sump plug magnet. Thought I might have buzzed it at the weekend, luckily I didn't but the cylinder leakage test showed it was within the tolerance for a new engine.

I use 10-60 Edge Sport "for highly stressed and competition engines" but Castrol do various grades of their "Edge" performance oil so there should be one to suit yours. I get it from a trade only outlet but Demon Tweeks will do it mail order, as will various eBay sellers.

Had a talk from a guy who works for Toyota F1 team as the Oil & Fuel manager. He came to the R19 PCGB meeting at Reading on Sat. From what he said, Mobil 1, 0-40w, works well in your engine. It's the best trade-off between engine protection and efficiency ( cold starting and fuel economy...whatever that is!!). There maybe other oils available with similar specs, but none will be any better, otherwise they ( Toyota) would use them!

3 x 4litre packs should be plenty. £19.95 + VAT at Costco.

It won't, but it'll need more than eight. The turbo has a dry sump system so capacity is larger than the NA 996.
