I have recently bought a 9444S2, and never having owned a sports car before I am sure that I am not getting the best out of it, does anyone know a race track that gives lesson in how to drive your sports car?, I live in Devon. thanks

Off the top of my head I would think Thruxton or Castle Combe are the nearest tracks. I know you can take your own car to Thruxton on certain days and have a good race driver take you round in one of their cars (it was RX8s when I went in 2005) and then sit in while you drive yours. The cost is pricy though - £150 for an hour. I went and paid it because it was the only way I could experience the circuit before racing there the following week. I drove a 2002 C2 3 & 1/2 hours there, an hour round the track, then the same journey home again. A long day for not much track time, but to learn the circuit it definitely helped.

If you're new to track driving this won't be long enough, so you may want to check out what's on at Castle Combe. There's definitely one or two Porsche Club track days there and there's always instructors on hand on those.

You might find it useful following a very similar thread I started over on the trackdays forum here on Pistonheads only today...

May be best booking a trackday through the normal route and paying for an instructor. I have often used Aaron Scott, he races Brtish GT and has done plenty of international work. Cant remember how much he charges, but he's a good lad and you can defo learn a lot from him.

Andy Walsh at Carlimits does excellent training.

www.carlimits.com/

He's a very friendly guy and knows his stuff (He's an ex formula 1 Benetton driver). A lot people return many times.

I did one of his airfield based training days (excellent) but he also does personal training on track days.

You'll find everyone singing his praises over on the SELOC forum:

Don't be put off by not having a Lotus - you'll find all sorts go there.
