On reversing out of my drive yesterday , I noticed a small pool of black stuff deposited where the car had been sitting the night before.
Checked the oil level .. I'm down bout half a litre yikes .. So fill her up and head straight down to the nearest decent mechanic.
I get word today , major oil leak coming through on the rocker gasket , and another at the camshaft bearing seal .. The engine is so covered in oil that they have to spray it down to find where the oil's coming from.

And now for the good news.

The car I'm referring to is a '04 XC90 D5 , run mostly by the pretty half of the family , it has 50k up on the clock , and is reputed to be one of the best , most reliable engines on the market today.

My '99 basement C2 has 55k miles on it . It has a 3.4L engine in it that is reputed (by the bearded ones at least) to be the worst , leakiest engine known to man .

It has yet to miss a beat or leave even the slightest trace of oil on my drive.

i think you will find Mrs Ballcock has been at the rocker cover gasgets mate.

when she says she wants a new one, she wants a new one.

Just thank your lucky stars she doesnt want to replace you.......

But you are right about the Pork. Ironic hey? having said that you are fully warrantied up so the engine would have been sorted anyway. well thats unless the OPC took pity on you for the colour combo and torched it for you

Yeah , the car was just about to go for sale when this happens...
It'll get a rub of a damp cloth when it returns from the shop , and the sign goes on it post haste.

And the irony is , we had it under warranty but it expired in Jan ...

Funny thing is , the 964 wears its leaks like a badge of honour , but a 996 sweaty rms is worse than having the two bob bits on the tube.
Go figure.
