Just had the car delivered to work (couldn't wait) with the new PSE and went for a quick blast.... The stupid cut-off relay is already history and the thing sounds awesome - turns heads from 50yds away.!

Probably the best way to describe it is:

You need to press the right foot down harder. Mine turns heads from 200 yards away.

Jonny, as an ex 535D owner I cannot believe you haven't replied to this thread.

Erik, congrats on the PSE, if only my Turbo'd Pork sounded as good at low revs...

I saw it but I want to leave my memories of my 535i (wasn't the diesel) behind me. Last time I was in my 535i I had the pleasure of closing the M4 motorway on my way to Heathrow after hitting a deer square on at rather a brisk pace - not something I’d recommend.

Congratulations Eric! Have to say given the weather, I did find myself taking somewhat of a scenic route to my destination this morning along some great country roads... PSE switched on and at full chat, radio firmly off... a superb soundtrack to a great drive... I assure you the smile won't fade!

I have PSE, how do you get rid off the cut-off/out thingy?

Question to Erik: Do you have the sports chrono on your 997? If yes, is the PSE switch linked to the sport setting? Thanks, Dr S

Dr S and Thorny,

Yes I have Chrono so the PSE is linked to the Sport button. However, this means the drive by cut-out relay is in operation. The permanent fix to get rid of this is a quick snip of one of the relays in the fuse box - this means the switch still works but the cut-out is removed.

However, the 1min fix is to pull out the relay cable in the engine bay. Detailed photos and explanations here:

www.rennteam.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=97627&page=&fpart=all&vc=1

Note that this means its loud all the time and the switch is redundant. I'll make the proper adjustment at some point but for now happy to keep it loud all the time.

Erik - congrats on the PSE. I'm still thinking about doing this. What's this cut-out thingy everyone mentions? I thought the switch was the cut-out?
Cheers

Even when you switch the PSE into loud mode it defaults to the quiet mode between 50kmh and 80kmh (if I remember the speeds correctly). This is due to the system being EU compliant and having to pass strict drive-by noise regulations in Switzerland.

The simple mod removes this cut-out so when the PSE is switched on it is loud all the time irrespective of speed or revs.

Excellent - that's what I'd be wanting to do. Are you going to any of the Ace Cafe meets?
Without being a stalker, I'd really like to hear the PSE on 997S.

Will try and make it to next meet but travel a lot so difficult.

Live in West London and always up for a hoon around so no prbs if you want to drop by for a listen - thinking of black wheels so would be good to compare.

It'll mean you'll have to change your name hehe

Well done on the PSE Eric , I had my basemant 996 moved up to first floor by adding the exhaust about 3 months ago. I still can't get over how much it changes the car. Best thing I ever did ... (to a car that is!!)

Absolute quality... had the PSE for 7 hours and got the first complaint from a neighbour last night... thumbup

Being a neighbourly kind of chap I gave it some extra beans down my street leaving for work at 5.30 this morning... Let's see how long before the other neighbours complain...!

Well done. In fact, you should charge your neighbours for the joy of hearing your toy.
