Weight difference GT3 vs Cup car
Discussion
Hi,
I am new to this forum, and thought that I would share some insight.
The 997 Cup is not 250 kg heavier than the 997 GT3! You have to take into account that the weight of the street car 997 GT3 includes all fluids and a full 64 l tank (not 90 l). The weight of the 997 Cup is a dry weight without any fluids, gas etc. When I did the calculation together with a Porsche official the correct difference between a GT3 RS (in its lowest possible weight configuration without AC and with PCCBs) and a Cup is about 80 kg, which is pretty amazing!

Does anyone know where the 250kg difference in weight between the GT3 Cup and vanilla GT3 comes from? Obviously the Cup cars are missing interior trim, a passenger seat, etc, but surely that isn't 250kg worth? Is it?
My 996 cup is 1315KG with Driver, race suit, helmet feul and 35kg of balast (to meet porsche open regs). I weigh in at 95kg in race gear so the car is 1185KG with all lubricants and coolants and approx 1/4 tank of feul. This is approximately 200kg lighter than a 996GT3RS with aircon and front cage fitted. I would be stunned if the differential between a 2007 cup car and 997GT3RS was not very similar especially as the 997 cup car has electric power steering which saves 30kg on the standard system

Let's see if we can solve this:
The offically stated dry weight of the 997 Cup is 1140 kg (with steel brakes)
The offically stated weight of the 997 GT3 RS is 1375 kg (in its lowest possible spec with no AC, PCCB brakes).
The difference between the offical weights are 235 kg.
Now lets try see if we can compare "apples with apples":
The RS weight includes:
- 64 l of fuel (not 90 l!)
- cooling fluid 25 litres (?)
- brake fluid ?
- other fluids ?
- what else have I missed? tools etc?
Hmmm... How much could these non-comparables sum up to? 100 kg? In that case the difference seems to be more in the region of 135 kg between the two cars.

Not sure you realise this, but training at the gym doesn't involve sitting at the juice bar eating all the pastries...
Talk to me when you've lost 10kg!

Nope, it involves 10k runs, and lots of free weights. I played Rugby for Eastern Counties before I raced cars but i've I kept training ever since.
See you at the gym some time lardy Boy, I'll buy you a pie..
