I've got a problem .. A BIG problem.

I have not been able to get a recent (and first) GT3 drive out of my system. It's like a fughin drug and I'm craving more.

Unfortunately , I'm stuck with day dreaming for at least the next 12 months or so , but in the mean time , I'd really appreciate those of you who drive the marque and use it as a daily form of transport , to come forth , and tell me if it's possible or not .

My daily mileage is low (about 30 miles only) and on good roads ,with only occasional traffic jams , and no speed bumps. I'd plan on getting a 'comfort' with road going set up , and only very occasional track use .

*Is it sacrilege to subject such a car to two 15 mile runs , 5 days a week?

*Have any of you started Gt3 ownership with daily drive intentions , only to have to think again a few months into ownership?

I'd appreciate any thoughts those of you who have ,or have had, the pleasure/pain of owning and running same.

BTW , it's most likely a Mk2 that I'd end up with , puely cos I'd get more years under warranty , even though my heart says Mk1... Thoughts??

Also BTW , Kayc , I know how you feel , so ........ hehe

Its not a sacrelidge at all, enjoy the drive.

Though its not the perfect commumting car, it can do it no fuss -the only thing is the clutch can get quite heavy in continual stop start traffic.

Do it - nothing wrong with running a 996 GT3 as a daily. You only live once, if you can do it then you should!

Why is your heart saying MkI? What is better about the MkI?

No problem as a daily, my only grief is speed bumps in london, apart from that its fine, ac, nice stereo and a top noise. Do it! Ps mk1 look nicer IMHO

Had two GT3's (Mk1 CS and Mk2 Comfort). Mk2 was bought specifically as daily driver hence comfort spec with sports seats, which are less hassle than buckets when using one frequently. I did 5,000 miles in 5 months but now back in comfy auto cos I'm getting old, plus the new car has almost three times the amount of torque, which is nice.

There are only two issues at all. One is ground clearance so may have to avoid many multi-storey car parks but it's just the "breakaway" front splitter that scrapes. Secondly, yes it is a hard ride compared to most cars but that's no big deal if you're an enthusiast.

Buy a Mk2 - much better value for 4yr newer car and some worthwhile technical upgrades (engine, brakes, gearbox synchros). I sold mine privately with 20k miles for £47k. Bargain imo. Unless you can buy a Mk1 for sensibly lower price to reflect above points.

I'll definitely buy another GT3 too - probably be a second car next time so 996RS/997RS.

I've been using an RS for the last 4 months as an everyday car, no worries at all, puts a smile back on my face whenever I get into it. If you look at the price difference mileage makes to the value of Mk1 cars, 20k miles only seems to make a couple of £k difference to resale if condition is kept good, so seems like a waste not to get the car out and just use it!

Buy a Mk2 mate
Much more modern looking bodystyling
Also u never ever ever see facelift 996's with the proper Mk2 gt3 kit bolted on for the gt3 look so thats a bonus.
There are lots of fake 1998 £20000 gt3 look cars about.
Not the most compelling argument but a minor valid point

Also as u said ,you have more years under warranty.
You get a much newer car for only about 5 to 10 grand more deoending on the car

I havent driven one but do love the look of the Mk 2

Do it. Mine is not my daily driver - got a golf for that, but when i am bored i often drive it into canary wharf through all the horrible traffic and it has never been a problem. If i could not afford to keep both cars, i would sell the golf and drive the gt3 every day.

i dont think you will have a problem..as has been said.
The key thing is that you have good roads on your way to work, which makes a huge difference.

Comfort spec makes more sense as my fixed buckets are a PITA for long journeys.

As a daily driver, I would go for a less lairy colour. silver/black etc...red at a stretch. Just not yellow. They get a lot of attention, fine for a weekend blast/ trackday etc, but not what you want in a public car park.

good luck in your search.

Get a 'sorted' mk1, they don't need the warranty. Not driven a mk2, so not really qualified to comment.

Presume you have evo issue 066?

'Alton Towers - Where the magic never ends', or so the commercial says. Imagine my disappointment when it closed at 7:30.

Quality of roads and absence of speedbumps would make me decide to go ahead with a GT3. Any GT3

They do say boys, that verbal insults hurt more than physical pain. They are, of course, wrong - as you will soon discover when I stick these toasting forks into your heads.

ETA - on topic, Porsche GT3 dailydriveystuff yaaaayyy.

and the wrong ride height, rear wiper...

They're not as prevalent as the mk1 kits, but they're out there.
