Took an SLK 350, SL500 and then a Cayman S for test drives today as I finally got off my arse and did something about getting a new P&J. Liked the SLK a lot (surprosed me it did) but the Cayman - OH MY GOD!!!!!

What a fabulously well balanced, built like it's going to last a lifetime, hugely enjoyable car!

Apparently there are no new ones in the system so have to go pre-owned.

Here is the problem.... my dealer has 2 manual cars only. A SIlver with 19" and PASM, full black leather and some other extras, 5000 miles 06 car for £44K. And their demo (available in June) in Dark Blue (cant remember name) with motropole blue half leather, BOSE, rear wipe, 19" wheels and other bits retailing at £51K and it will be about £48K when they sell it with approx 1500-2000 miles. NO PASM though.

Now I took the demo out and it was lovely and I like the colour but know people on here rave about PASM. But don't like silver which has PASM.

SO... is the blue car a) good value and b) ok with no PASM or should I wait for a PASM car? Having not driven a PASM car I cannot compare so not sure if I wold be diasappointed if I buy their demo car.

Thanks...Gary

I agree on them being fun to drive,,I drove 18" without pasm and later 19" with pasm..

quite liked the pasm, don't see the need for 19"s though confused

Why do you have to choose between these 2 cars?...last time I looked there approx 80 Cayman S available in the Porsche network and surely many more outside.

Nice one - great car.

I'm happy to wait for a new build (he says, knowing that as the months, weeks & days draw closer he will go potty).

I had a look at that one today. Grey interior does it no favours. As for the one at Kennys - black with blue interior - jeez. I ended up taking out the 996tt x50 at Edinburgh. Nice, they are tracking one down for me now (one that isn't 60k that is)

PASM is a must on Boxster / Cayman though. Much better on the limit.

You have actually answered mine and your Q here. I am now going to ask them to find me a PASM car in the spec I want rather than take what they have. I loved their demo car but it was the PASM issue I was unsure about.

Had one as a courtesy car for a day a couple of weeks back. Amazing car. (Would still get a 3.4 Boxster S though)

What spec was the SLK? Manual or Auto, std or AMG? I got myself an manual with sports *suspension) at the end of last year and have been absolutely blown away by how good it is. Agree that the Cayman is probably even sweeter but you can buy a lot with the £15-£20k saving.

It was an 350 Auto with sports suspension! Supposedly not many manuals about although I quite liked the 7G auto box. I have to admit that the price you can get these for with a few miles on them - high 20's to 30K - is very tempting and that would be the only reason not to go for the Cayman.

That is a good price. And since he is desperate you might even be able to get him a little lower. I'd be tempted myself if hadn't have just bought a new car. Right colour, good spec.

Just imagine what these will be worth in 6 months or so, when I am ready to change cars again.

This spec looks perfect for a "drivers" car. This is exactly what I would order if I was ordering again. The ride/handling balance with the PASM and 18" wheels is absolutely perfect.

And all for under 40K :0 Looks like a bargain to me......

"Metallic Seal grey
Sports Chrono
PASM Suspension
Upgrade sound package
Sports steering wheel
Rear wash wipe
Full Climate control "

too right...it looks like an absolute steal. I know everyone likes a new car, but I cannot understand why anyone would pay £50k plus on a car that is going to plummet to the high £30s within a year or so.
and there are plenty of lovely pre-owned cars around.

One of my friends paid 52k for his. less than 12 months later he couldnt sell it privately for even 40k and took the best dealer offer in the end.

It was a lovely low mileage (only 5000 miles I think), car will all the gear on it.
And yet all the new build slots seem gone.!

That's my car and I'm not desperate btw

You're right about the drivers car bit, that's the reason for the spec and I must say, it doesn't disappoint in that regard. My Cayman has been at the dealers on ‘sale or return’ for a few weeks and I've really missed it. It's going in for a part-ex on Tues against a Boxster S, Which will be nice over the summer.

Any last minute takers?

I think it is missing the Short Shift to make it the complete driver's package. Oh and the sports seats.

Mmmm, don't like the feel of the short-shift personaly, but it can be retro-fitted pretty cheaply if you decide you need it.

Seats, I agree. Definately if it's going to be a regular track-goer. For the road, not so crucial.

I ordered mine on Saturday morning :P and the sports seat are a must for a drivers spec car (providing you fit ok).

Also agree with the short shifter - then again I'm driving a S2000 at the moment and that has the best gearchange of any car I've driven including any Porsche in the current line up and many other sports cars.

Oh right!! Saw your post over on Caymanclub. Didn't make the Asterix link, sorry.

Nice spec. One or our North West regulars has silver and cocoa and it looks mint. Not GT, though. A lot of monet for a shade of silver, heh?
