just broke down in my 996 c2 year 2000,went out in it to a friends ,running great, went back to it got back in the car and it had a magor missfire not running on all cylinders, rang a tow truck as it wouldnt pull at all,got back to a friends garage, put snap on reader onto car and it says magor missfire on 1,2,3,5 cylinders, now the other day when i had new plugs fitted at the same garage we noticed that 4 of the power packs wot go on the end of the plugs were cracked throw the plastic coating realy bad ?????,so have orderd a full set from eurocar parts, but its just sounds strange that all four have gone together all at once, garage said it could be ngk spark plugs wot we fitted last week,so i,ve orded a set of buru, could it be distributer cap????has anyone else had this problem,or could it be that we,v disterb the power packs and now they,ve failed because of the cracks ?????please give your views...............

I presume you mean the coil packs? I had the same problem on my CGT, the CEL came on and after plugging it into the diagnostics it stated multiple missfire. Pulled the coil packs and 7 out of 10 had cracks. Replaced them all and no problem since.

Am I a grammar snob, or does 'wot' and 'magor' look odd to everyone else too?

Re: your spark plug and coil pack dilemma - were the NGK plugs the correct spec? If so, I doubt changing to Beru would help.

It is probably the aged coil packs. Try replacing them one by one until the problem goes.

Well, how do you know 4 have gone down? The diagnostic software is not always 100% correct. Anyway, I would probably not change the plugs, but if all the coil packs are old and cracked, replace them - no point this happening again in a few months when another one gives up.

Good luck

I have heard of 5 going going wrong at the same time...OR its that 4 are cracked, but not bad enoughformisfire and then the 5th brings your attention to it.

Maybe covered before but why do they crack?
Had to have 2 replaced on the TT recently during a service.

Are these covered by extended warranty?

Excuse me for stating the obvious, but if it has coil packs it doesn't have a distributor cap, right?

Oh, and PLEASE edit the title at least. Major is spelt, er, m-a-j-o-r. Your grammar/spelling make you come over as an eejit. Which I'm certain you're not.

Just had this happen to my GT3 as i arrived at bedford for the track day on the 31st. Went round to the garage today to have a look. The coil packs were split, just like yours. I spoke to the guys and they told me that it is fairly common for the plastic insulation to split, but generally the missfiring then starts if the car is driven when its very wet. I had mine out for the first time ever in the rain the day before.

I am getting them all changed, just to be safe.
