Hi all, this is my first post as a Porsche owner - spend most of my time on the TVR forum (got a Sagaris as well). Picked up a 996TT (04 model) last friday and noticed that when using the button inside the car to raise and lower the rear spoiler (to clean underneath) it goes up fine but doesn't want to come all the way down again on the passenger side. It will come down with a little assistance as the button is pressed.

It seems to come down of it's own accord on the road - once the speed drops to the required trigger level.

Anyone had this experience? If so, do you know the fix (Porsche Centre is quoting a Grand to replace the mechanism).

Many thanks in advance for your help Porsche chaps.

Doesn't sound right to me, the upper part (the bit that raises & lowers) never sits completely flush, there is a 2mm-ish gap, but the gap is the same right accross.

Word of warning (as you have been quoted) - problems with the spoiler can be very expensive - fingers crossed yours is just an adjustment issue. There is a warning light on the dash that tells of spoiler
problems, if that isn't on then should be easily sorted.

If you only just got the car then the dealer should sort it out.

Good luck !

R.

Once raised (manually) the passeneger side only lowers a few millimitres, whereas the driver's side goes allthe way down - it's not a few mm, it's a few cm. There are no warning lights during the process but there is a high frequency clack-clacking noise that sounds like slipping cogs.

BTW - my car has the full Porsche Approved Warranty - just been through it's 192 point check and 12K service, but I am told that this would not be covered!!

Guess that means things like elec seats, windows, roof, etc would also not be covered if they failed.

I didn't have the same problem but the suggested remedy by the OPC was the same.

When my spoiller went up I was getting a message saying something like 'Rear spoiler failure'

The OPC said that it was a common fault and a micro switch was sticking, no problem do it under warranty !!.

Although the OPC said it was a wear and tear item I argued that the Extended warranty that I was only 1 month into clearly said switches were covered it transpires that stripping the assembly down to get to the offending switch is a bit of a pain so they prefer to replace with a new £600 part.

After I told them to feck off over the switch not being covered routine they stripped it dowm oiled it up and hey presto it works.

I recon a good old grease monkey will get your spoiler working OK, but these days the 'Technicians' don't want to get their rubber gloved hands dirty.

The list of items covered by the OPC warranty includes all the spoiler motors and switchgear. I would ask then to look a bit more closely as obviously it is an oversight on their part (is there a "My Arse" Smiley?)

Hmmm, that's absolutely the opposite of what Hatfield told me - thanks for the advice. Haven't got my Warranty booklet back from the owner change yet so haven't had chance to read the smallprint.

The system operates on hydraulic pressure, the stanchions left and right are just rams, sounds like one is sticking, or the system has lost oil and not operating to spec - are the rams damp at all?? The system can be bled, but would need removing while thats done.

Nothing damp and it seems to consistently return to its proper (low) position when left to do so automatically. The problem seems to only occur when using the switch on the centre console - makes a rapid clackety clack noise at the top of its reach as well.

Hello

the switches you refer to are held on with 3 or 4 torx screws and located on the back of drivers side spoiler ram..easy to replace so the dealer who said its a pain to strip down is talking crap!.

If you leave the spoiler up in most extended position i have found this to improve the operation it must allow the fluds to balance out as there is no balancing valve i have spent many hours stripping a spoiler system on TT.

Try that and see how you go.
