Hi all

I have a 1990 964 C4, randomly I have a problem where the car seems to suddenly lose power and cause a sudden "stutter". It doesnt seem to be gear dependent and happens at both low and high speed.

I have been told that replacing the DME Relay may sort this, however on doing a bit of reading it appears the relay is more for starting the engine... Can anybody out there give some much needed advice? Oh and if it could be the relay, anybody know of a next day supplier?

Thanks
Gary

Air flow meter - sounds just like a problem I had with my 1989 C4.

Thanks. Air flow meter... What would I be looking at spending to replace that?

Need to diagnose it first. It sometimes comes up as a fault code but often not. It can be removed and cleaned and this can sort it for a while. but ultimately a new one would be better. There are about £250-300 I think - Bosch part.

Eaullly it could be something else.

Worth trying the relay first... or is it unlikely to be that?

I'd change the DME relay if the original one is still in the car, did in my 968 and car felt noticably better for it only cost £25.

Hi

Replaced the relay and unfortunately the problem is still occuring. Still, it was worth a try for £25.

Looks like i'll have to get it into a garage for some diagnostics.

fwiw, if it were the air flow meter being cruddy/ u/s wouldnt it be a consistent stutter/ flat spot?
