Not sure of the name/number but if you look up on google maps Greoux to Castellane, that gives you a rough route for the gorge.

I'm doing it in late May - can't wait! Was also inspired after seeing the TG show with the RS4!

Planning a road trip for this summer
Great inspiration on your website Pikey!
Does anybody know the name/number of the road in the Gorges du Verdon in France where they test drove the RS4 on Top Gear? Anybody been there?

It's called the Route Napolean.
Should be marked as so on any good road map...

TopGear took the RS4 around the Gorges Du Verdon. Do the roads on both sides of the Gorge.
Southern road along the Gorge du Verdon is the D71.
Northern Road along the gorge is the D952.
If in the area you also must do the Col de Vence (think Goldeneye and Ronin), then cross over and do the Col de Torini (think Paddy Hopkirk and a mini!).
Also check out the roads around Castellane (This years EVO magazine group test). IMHO you are better off blasting down to the south of France and spending your time playing in all the Gorges than trying to find the interesting roads on the way down through France.

What sort of time are talking to get down there and how many miles is such a trip? Would 4 days be sufficient to get down there, drive around the main bits and come back or is that really rushing it?
yes. we did blighty to grenoble day one.
grenoble to monaco day two
evening two i covered my hotel room with puke
day three monaco to lyon
day four lyon to blighty
the 1st run was hardest. the rest was complete rubbish. the route nappy is of no interest to anyone, ever......

doesnt matter if you find the right road round there. they are all amazing
amazingly dull.
in summary, stay away.
a few years ago i spent a whole week, on my own, just driving in circles all round there down to grasse and up to val d'isere. forced to eat in many terrible village restaurants, grab coffee's in appallingly unscenic locations, but mostly just got lost on those crappy congested french roads, havent they heard of straight lines? twice driving so long i just pulled over and slept in the car. area has nothing to recomend it, nothing.
