I'm 99% convinced the Cayman S is the next car for me.

This is what I’m thinking.

Cayman S
Meteor Grey
19” Turbo Wheels
Cocoa interior
Full leather
Sports seats

Short shifter
PASM
Sport Chrono pack
Bose
Thicker sports steering wheel
Bi-Xenon lights
Parking assist
Mats

I think that’s it – I’m still not sure about the exterior colour – Meteor Grey is a very safe colour but I can’t quite bring myself to go for Yellow or Red and the silvers are too common. Black is a no go thanks to the sand/dust swirling the paintwork – also not good given the sun here (Dubai).

I have Meteor Gray and it is a very nice colour.

All I'd say is buy the colour because you want it, not simply because you think it's "safe" because what is safe now may not be in three or so years when you're wanting to move it.

I actually wanted metallic gray but I do wonder how many of the silver and gray cars on the roads today are there because people like the colour or because they thought "resale" before they'd even put down a deposit.

I see your point but I do like the colour as well. I like Seal Grey as well.

I also like the idea of the GT Silver with the Carrera Sport Wheels.

I have a Meteor Grey on order. I chose the colour because I like it.
Simple really. The re sale value will depend on a lot of different issues at the time.
The most important being how the car has been looked after! Better to have a fabulous condition Meteor Grey than an average Silver..

Nice Spec by the way!

Cheers - The more I'm thinking about it I don't think the Cocoa will go - but it is stunning with full leather.

I want to see if I can get a look at GT Silver this evening.

I think seal does go perfectly well with cocoa. It's a tad flamboyant but still classy.

I'm going to the OPC this evening to see what colour combos they have there and see which takes my fancy.

Ditto. There are a couple of new Porsche at my OPC; a Cayman a Boxster and a pair of 996s (one Cabriolet), and all are in Meteor or Slate with Cocoa interiors. They all look fantastic - particularly the two Cabs, both of which have Cocoa coloured hoods to match the interiors. One of those things that I'd never have suspected as looking great without having seen it in the flesh.

What is the educated reason for putting those two clashing hues together?

I suspect someone tried it, and the result looked so great they tried a few more. Trust me - it looks great, and not flamboyant at all. Very understated. Slate has a hint of brown in it anyway, so Cocoa looks particularly good with that shade.

Phew! Full leather, yes, garish warm cocoa, no. (Advice from Royal Academician colourist!)

If slate has any other colour in it, it will be black. It will clash with any warm shade. Then there's all the black and silver accentuations to co-ordinate in the cabin.

I never understand why guys bone-up on the racing history of the marque, the dynamics of the car, then ignore educated aesthetics.

Well I've seen it, and it doesn't clash. Not even a little bit. And Slate has a warmth to it - it's a complex colour, and there's definitely a hint of brown in there. Go check it out. That said, the cocoa looks nice with the Meteor, too - and that's a cooler grey. Ultimately, though, the Porsche range of colours is and has always been somewhat restrictive. When you compare what's possible with a Porker, to what can be ordered on an Aston Martin V8, for example, it really hits home as to how constrictive it can be to create something relatively unique from the choices available. For that reason alone, it's nice to see the OPC with something other than the usual silver/gray/black/dark blue with black leather.

Erm... I was kidding LA. I thought we had a bit of banter going. I was obviously wrong, and thought you were being facetious about being a 'colourist'. Sorry.

I understand what you're saying, but all you're saying is, "It looks nice." It may not be as offensive as (say) carmine red with a black exterior, but it still doesn't work. Yes, there are some combinations you can live with even though they are at odds, and there are other combinations which cause nausea, such as maroon and grey. Avoiding the usual combinaton such as black with grey demands you make very careful choice.

OK. This is way too serious, and you're in a bad mood today LA - not your usual playful self. Generally, when I'm buying a car "It looks nice" is good enough for me. It's important that I like what I'm buying, and whilst garish is out of the question, I'm not really that interested in putting together something that conforms to an 'accepted' aesthetic. I like dark grey with cocoa, particularly when that dark grey is Slate. Just my view. When choosing a hood colour for my hypothetical 997 Cab, I can have dark blue, grey, black or dark brown. I'm not exactly spoiled for choice. Brown works better than you'd suspect.
