If serious, try to get output checked on a decent rolling road...i have heard of a couple of examples over the years which have been down on power leading to a £10k type bill to sort....or get someone with recent 993TT experience to drive it as even a standard car will feel slow after your chipped 996TT.

I don't think they have any 'issues' specific to them. Just the same things to look out for as any car at least nine years old.
They are pretty 'bullit proof', my fathers had his nine or ten years and has had no problems.
The only issue he had was a wooshing noise, like oil circulating in the oil pipes or fluid in the aircon pipes.
I don't know what the English name for the part was as Porsche fixed it out at the factory whilst we were there. The part was a plastic valve which was subject to a data sheet so must have been a known fault.
Are you getting one to keep for best so you can use the 996 as an every day runner?

kayc - Further to last post re turbo 2. It's now been replaced by a 993tt.

FAB CAR!!!!!

Check car VERY carefully I saw lots - Including one that had Damon Hill in the logbook, but on investigation I got different answers from different people on whether it was his personal car or one of his hire cars....

You may not like me for it by my cash went to Autobahn. 2 weeks after driving one of theirs that looked unloved and sounded wrong when I drove it. It also had 3 reports in the service history of being collected by the AA for water in the engine bay. It had a GT2 style spoiler on the back and let water in which wasn't good. Oh, and the noise when I drove it, a whine in 4th & 5th, was a knackered gearbox...

Looking through the service history of the one I bought 2 weeks later, I found the phone number of the previous owner. So I went and sat in the car and phoned him! He gave what seemed to be an unbiased and good report.

The only problem I have had is with one of the intercooler pipes blowing off. There is a wee issue with some of them but it is easily fixed by replacing them. The new ones are of a different design - You can tell if it's been done because each end is now bright orange. Budget about £400 fitted from an OPC.

It's a good idea to put it on a ramp. You will see very little, but if you see oil, question it.

From my experience they're bullet proof If it's Simons black one you're looking at I can confirm that the diff is in good shape and it goes sideways very nicely indeed. I would definitely upgrade any TT with Pss9 suspension though.
The turbo pipes are a pain. My car has never had a problem but some blow them off regularly.

Hehe I wondered why I suddenly was getting allot of emails

I decided to keep my car i reckon if i let it go I’d never find one like it again. That and i love it too much

So i ditched the idea of getting a 997GT3 and with the cash I’m having an old school 1970's rsr replica made by www.early911.co.uk

p.s. Alan did you ever get those new LED side lights in?
