Hi, I have just ordered a new Cayman S (manual). Should have it in about 6 months and the wait is going to be hard!
Anyone have one? Has it lived up to your expectations?
Any advice much appreciated.

Click over to: www.caymanclub.net/

There's lots of infor on options, a UK section, snd plenty of chat (albeit with a Merkin focus) to keep to entertained while you wait.

I have a 987 Boxster S which some would say is a Cayman without a roof, arguably the Cayman is even better. All I can say is my S is one of the best cars I have ever owned, including a collection of 911s. Have you got a treat in-store!

Hi

I’ve had a Cayman S for about a year now and it’s been the best car I’ve owned to date. Had a 996 (which I loved) before the Cayman and overall I’d put the Cayman just above it.

The Cayman seems more focused than the 996 as a driving machine, it’s much better balanced.

When you take in to account the great steering (responsive and informative), brakes (full of feel and strong) and handling (direct and generally benign), it’s a very good package and one that’s hard to better. The stiff chassis soaks up the roughest of roads better than any car I’ve driven to date, while at the same time being keyed in

You’ll love it

Pikey is your man to answer all things Cayman related. He seems to have slept in his for the last year.

As far as I am aware he really quite likes it.

Have had mine for over a year now and still love it. The car is very practical, great to drive on road or track and I can get two full golf sets in the back no problem at all. I chose to have the PASM and Sports Chrono options as I thought these would add to the driving experience, I wasn't wrong. If you are going to wait 6 months for the car get your dealer to let you drive a few to see what options you like before you finalise your spec.

If you look in the "Kent and Essex" section there is a regular meet in Essex that I go to sometimes. If you post on the thread and can get along I'll try to make it as well and be happy to take you out for a ride.

I can only agree with the comments here.

I've had my Cayman S for 3 weeks now and absolutely love it!

Handling is amazing and as an everyday car I find it totally practical and comfortable.

You will enjoy!!

P.S. make sure you get the PASM. Useful when giving it large...

I had one on loan for a couple of weeks while one of our cars was in the shop getting smartened up.

I found it lighter to handle, very responsive (compared to boxster and 996) but brakes not as good and build quality just not as spot on as on 996.

Extra storage space in back of car was good but you cannot leave anything in there as it's on view. Personally I found the background noise level annoying (not a deep throaty roar, just a higher piteched whine) and overall I prefer the 996.

Thanks for the help and suggestions. I have not listed PASM as an option but I am now seriously thinking of spending the extra £1000.
I'll post the spec' I have chosen when I get a spare minute.

Thanks again.

Initially I didn't care for it that much but now I think it looks great, a lot more expensive than it actually is and I'm sure dynamically speaking it is spectacular...

Did you not drive one first? My impression was good fun, great handling and brakes but the lack of power would become frustrating..plus for close to 50k you can buy some very serious cars..all imo of course

I picked up my Cayman on 1 March from Solihull. It is not the S but I still love it. The build quality is fantastic, the refinement amazing and the drive is wicked!

You will absolutely love it. I had a 6 month wait too and it took sooooo long but I would try to put it out of your mind for the next few months.

You will not be disappointed.

I went for the chrome double exhaust which looks awsome - definitely worth the extra few hundred quid. I also got the 6 CD, Parking sensors, leather, sound package upgrade and Cayman S alloys. Finished in Atlas Grey - beautiful colour.

I originally ordered Atlas Silver but decided they were a little too common and went for the Grey after seeing an S parked outside my offices. A colleague has it in Guards Red but not to my taste.

Enjoy!!!

Yes I drove one for half a day and decided to buy one.

The specification is
Meteor Grey Metallic
Sand Beige full leather interior
Sports seats
extra leather to doors, sund visors, steering column, instrument surround.
Instruments dials in Carrera white. Red seatbelts.
Heated seats.
Full Auto climate control.
Manual transmission.
Park assist
Wheel centre set
Embossed head restraints
Short shifter
Standard Cayman 18" wheels
Rear luggage partition
Dimming mirrors with rain sensor
6 cd changer
Bose Surround.

I am thinking of adding the PASM but a little concerned as I believe this lowers the car by 10mm. I have a LOT of speed humps around where I live and a tricky drive way entrance. So slightly concerned about scraping the bottom (so to speak).

The car I tested did not have PASM and to be honest I do wonder if it makes a huge difference.Advise appreciated on that one.

Thank for the input so far. The hardest part is going to be the wait.....AAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!}

Meteor Grey with Sand Beige Leather, White Dials, Red Seat Belts and 18" Wheels? Have you thought about what effect that will have on its re-sale value? hehe

I realise that the colours etc are a very personal. However it's what I want.
The resale value is not more important to me than having the car I want in the spec I want.
I think it will look great. (I could be wrong)...eek.:laugh

My mistake; £55k 170mph mid-engined sports cars!

Obviously options and colours are a personal thing, but I'd think long and hard about that extra leather. I doubt it makes the cabin a better place to be & is money down the drain at re-sale. Based on my own experience with a Cayman, I'd also suggest a short-shift isn't necessary & consensus on Caymanclub.net is that the Bose system isn't much kop either.

There's lots of opinion on spec and options on that site - its worth a look.

If you really like the Sand Beige it does go better in combination with either Midnight Blue, Basalt Black or Atlas Grey at a push. I would take 19" wheels Sport Design/ Carrera Classic/ Sport Classic, with colour crests in lieu of full leather if cost is an issue as they visually make the car and again enhance resale appeal. Don't be too worried about the -10mm that PASM drops the car, having had a few Porsches with this option have never had an issue with sleeping policemen. Lastly, Red Seat Belts with Sand Beige leather (having seen it) is yuck All the other options are spot on...! OK, so it's your car just putting in my 2p worth... wobble

I have a Cayman in Meteor Grey and i love it... like a dark silver in some lights, silver and black were a bit too common imo.
You may well be right about the speed humps... The council have just stuck about 25 on the roads near my house and on at least 2 of them i have noticed that something catches and I have to be careful... so any further lowering would surely make this even worse.

God knows how the guy above gets 2 sets of golf clubs in the boot though! I barely manage 1 in mine and thats after I have removed all the woods and stuck them in the passenger seat.

You are also right to go for the colour combination that you like... If you didn't we would all be driving around in silver or black cars with black leather and where's the individuality in that. If you like it you have it.
