In the proccess of narrowing my 996 options down to 3 cars and my wife asked me last night - Could we take our 7month old baby with all the usual baggage out with us - My first thought was YES but after doing a few searches on practicalty,Push Chairs, car seats etc,etc - Is it true that the C4s has allot less luggage space than the Carrera 2? The Targa is the most family friendy due to its hatchback design? Split fold rear seats are standard? A Porsche push chair does indeed cost £500???? If anyone knows of any other push chairs or car seats that fit into a 996 but cost slightly less then please let me know.

May i add that i do have an everyday car(Audi) so i would not be relying on the 911 but i would like to take family out the odd weekend in the 911.

yes, the C4 has about half to 1/3rd of the boot space of the C2...

If you do want to take the family out - C2 is the way to go (they are better to drive anyway ) and most people do, Torchy did outings with wife and two kids in his C2 with no dramas..

I'd go the C2 route and find a pushchair to fit. The boot is quite deep. Or just factor the Porsche pushchair into the budget if you don't want to stretch to a maclaren

I heard that Quinny pushchairs will fit into the C2.

My wife and I and our two kids have gone on long weekends away in my C2 with no luggage problems .. In fact , I think it's beneficial to have a 'luggage space cap' , it will make your wife think before she packs!! The amount of useless crap that's brought on car journeys sometimes defies reason.

The one thing you will have to think about is whether your baby needs to be facing rearward or not. Forward facing is best as it means "little precious" can fit in the back , but he/she needs to be a little older before that can happen (I can't remember how old at this stage , it's weight determined , but it's around 9 months..)

Both myself and torchman have 'britax trio' seats which are inexpensive and fit the rear seat space beautifully.
I believe you can get a quinny zap to fit in the luggage compartment , but the cheaper (and more space saving ) option is a piece o' crap Maclaren type buggy that'll fit in behind the rear seats. this leaves the front compartment free for supermarket supplies/ overnight bags.

Hope this helps .. It's important the memsaab is onside!!

Quinny zapp fits fine in a C2, we had to buy one specifically for this (about the 5th buggy in 3 years!).

Having considered all the above, boot space, seating, baby seats, comfort, etc, etc, etc I think you'll find you need a turbo. Because it's REALLY FAST.

What is it about wives/young mothers and buggy fazination!?
My wife has managed to find various flimsy excuses to accumulate no less than 7 buggies in 6 years and 2 kids... And I'm stupid enough to nearly have bought her the Porsche model that fits in the luggage space , at £500.(Well it IS a mechanical marvel!!) Thankfully sense prevailed on that particular occasion.

Be careful with this chum. If the car has Bose fitted then that handy buggy sized compartment behind the rear seats is taken up with the stereo sub. still at least it stops you hearing screams from the kids when you are pressing on

Nothing to add really, but get a C2 for the boot space (and better drive ) and a cheapo MacLaren buggy for behind the back seats.

We managed the four of us and enough crap for a week, including a travel cot.

I reluctantly got out of porsches a few years back, the kids had grown out of car seats, but it really concerned me what would happen in an accident with their heads so close to the seat backs, unfortunately nobody was able to provide crash test info for rear passengers.

Good grief! That's impressive. How old were the bairns?

At the time they were 18 months and four. That's with my wife's packing too!

you need to bear in mind though, torchy holds the patents to trans-dimensional folding techniques...
