My current Porsche (07MY, delivered 11/06) came with a 2006 navigation disc.

My OPC said that updates were issued at periodic intervals, but couldn't say when the next one would be due. Although the latest PCM works well, the mapping could still be improved and a newer disc might help.

Anyone got one yet? And if so, what's the price/best source?

You are deluded if you think those windscreen suckers can compare with fitted, factory sat nav.
Different ball game.

Aside from automatically muting the radio if you ask it to, what does a factory one give you over a sucker one, other than a wallet £1500+ lighter?

Oh yeah, and something halfway down the dash to look at and make you crash?

There's an additional directional display in the instrument panel. So, no, you won't crash.

Those Ting Tong things are quite good though, if you can't afford the real thing

What sort of price are these updates? Also how do you get the trafiic master blue triangle things to come up when there's a traffic Jam. Is this a cost option?
Thanks.

I've got the PCM sat nav but I use the Tom Tom on my phone in preference - light years ahead in every way.

I wonder whether it might be cheaper to upgrade over the continent? By the way, both PCM and the phone system are as bad as anything compared to their portable versions. In fact I am renting a Citroen which has a mile better satnav than the Porsche, akin to comparing a Porsche to a base citroen driving wise in fact!!!

So you are claiming that a suction mounted tom-tom is better than a Porsche factory fitted sat nav unit?
You're all mad, clearly.

I've got both. I have a Navman which I mainly use in my Golf and I have the factory PCM in my GT3.

Firstly, you're lucky to get a signal within the first 2-3 minutes of turning on your hand held.
Secondly, the processors are in a different league, so if you deviate from your route and you're on a handheld, prepare to crawl to 20MPH so it can catch up and recalculate.
Thirdly, you're not subject to a batterly life.
Fourthly, larger, higher definition screen.
Finally, it's infinitely better looking, being all factory fitted and is a huge resale motivator.

I turn my ignition and BANG, I have a signal straight away and am ready to go.

These pocket sat navs are awesome inventions and I love them, but let's be serious eh?
Yes, they're £1000 cheaper, no denying, but if we're judging merely on price.....

There is a huge difference between portable sat navs - Navman are sadly not particularly great, but Tom Tom and Garmin etc, both make products which are arguably far better than most factory fit navi systems, cosmetics aside.
