Apropos of nothing in particular, but I was looking in my 993's service book last night and happened to notice that it was first registered on 13 March 1997 - ten years and 79,650 miles ago today.

So, happy birthday to P415 *** and may she have many more of them! biglaugh

Do you think qualifying for classic car insurance at 10 years old is like a human reaching 65 and becoming entitled to a bus pass and a pension?

Happy Birthday..Thats a good point on the classic insurance. I have my MK2 Jag and Bikes with carol Nash in Altrincham. Give them a call. It only costs me about 160 quids for my Jag with agreed value of 30k. I am sure some will take ten years as the classic barrier.

Well, I do have the beardy 993 enthusiast tag to live up to!

(It was sitting in a pile of "to be filed" stuff following having the car serviced a couple of weeks ago and not having got around to putting it away)

I think I'll ring around on renewal later in the year.

The only downside is that (as I understand it) you don't maintain any existing NCB or accumulate any more years on a classic policy. But then if it's that much cheaper I could always use my 10 years NCB on the wife's Clio scratchchin

Whilst I do frequent the A34 (between Congleton and the M60) quite frequently, that wasn't me.

The maroonish colour is Arena Red, I think. Mine is on a P-plate and is silver - although I've never been quite sure whether it's Arctic or Polar. Can anyone tell based on the pic in my profile?

My mum swears it has a blue-ish tinge to it - which I gather is synonymous with Polar Silver - but I'm not convinced, personally.

Blueish tinge = Polar same as mine.

Put it next to any other silver car and the difference is very noticeable.

I can't quite tell from the photograph. However, if your Mum says that it has a blueish tint then i agree it's Polar Silver.

Most policies for classics are (as far as I know) minimum of 15 year-old car.

You are right that generally the classic policy doesn't accumulate NCB (depending on the covering firm), but all will happily write you a letter saying that you've had a policy with them for x years and made no claims. I don't know if this would be accepted by an insurer for a "normal" policy.

I live near John Lewis and recall you mentioning the A34 in a thread re tracking etc a while ago..I was in my Landy Defender last night and I kid you not this guy in his Porcshe 993 in front of me was screaming along at all of 35 in the 50 mph limit.
Think he had forget to take the hand brake off!!
