In the last couple weeks 3 or 4 993s have been advertised in various places, not least Lord Henry Firman's yard, at around the £18K mark, are 993s starting to come down to where perhaps they should be priced.

Any thoughts?

Go on then, I'll bite (although I do agree with giw!)

For every one you find sub-£20K, you'll find rather more of them still above £20K.

I've been keeping a close eye on 993 prices over the last few weeks - mainly because I'll be in the market for a replacement for mine very soon. Basically this is the score (on a very rough basis, for 2wd cars):

> 120k miles = 18 - 20k pounds
> 80k miles = 20 - 22k pounds
> 60k miles = 22 - 24k pounds
< 60k miles = 24k plus (right up to 30k amazingly)

Any 'S' model = 30k plus

The cars that seem to be taking a hit at the moment are Targa's which were always seemingly in demand and therefore more expensive, however these seem to be getting more affordable.

It's like all cars - Owners of good cars are still asking strong money (but maybe not getting it), but recently there have been two or three 'bargain basement' higher mileage cars on offer.

The TT is still the bargain of the range in my opinion - serious bang for the money.

Yet again, I pick just the wrong moment to buy. D'oh.

Oh well. I suppose I'll just have to hold onto it.

Don't take my word as gospel - these are just observations based upon a not-very-scientific scanning of the ads on various sites

Been there, done that brough the rock sweets. Nothing I could see for the last 6 months (relevant period) but TT price queries and 1 about 964s. But hey, your input was helpful.

Well just sold mine on friday after 3 years, to be fair I doubt there really is much difference in price its just what needs doing to them i.e.

good and I mean good 993 c2 worth circa 25k

But hood if its a cab £1500
Suspension £2000
Door check straps £2000 (done properly)
etc etc etc the list goes on

You can buy a cr*p one for 18k and spend 10k doing it up or a decent one for 28k and spend nothing imho they are just getting older now and need more money spending on them hence the difference in price however again imho buyers and sellers dont understand this (apart from the very nice and reasonable guy that bought mine)

I am missing mine it already (well I was missing it after it drove off the drive to be honest !!!!)

993 Targas are still selling well, though - I note that Henry had (I think) three about a month ago and they're all sold. They weren't cheap, either! Paragon seems to have sold a few lately, too, judging by its current list. Are you really thinking of parting with yours already? With Spring well on the way, I'd suggest you hang on to it and enjoy the car's special qualities.

No plans to sell in the foreseeable future, I'm pleased to say, Kent! It's only done 2,000 or so miles since I bought it in November so I'm only just starting to get used to it.

Just musing aloud really.

Looks like selling my 1996 C4 with 62k miles for £27500 in August 2006 was good business, although it was a minter.

Early cars in the trade are still like gold dust, the 993 that retails for under 20K is very good news.

£2000 to do new check straps?

God I might have missed an opportunity here!

Is that using full new door post panels? If not it is a rip off! Culd be done for half that easily and leave a satisfactory profit margin.

If it is using new door posts then it isn't really necessary, it can be done neatly and properley without.

OPC Bodyshop did my door check straps - the proper way. They remove the front wings and fix the straps from that side. Cost was about £700.00 for both sides.

Having them done by an OPC bodyshop means that they're guaranteed for 10 years as well.

Do not pay anyone two grand to do the job!

It depends what you mean by "should be priced". The law of supply and demand would surely say that the "correct" price is what people pay and many feel the 993 is worth it. Of course, as most of the cars put on the miles, the ones with the miles and wear and tear to match will have to be cheaper than the better cars. As there are often more worse cars than better cars in this respect, people will think prices are falling. It's just the average that's falling. This happened with now sort-after cars like the 964RS, early 911s, 356s and others. I am sure the 993, once the worse ones have hit rock bottom (whatever that figure is), they will start to rise and they will be worth restoring and the others (non-restored but good) will also do well. Those let to rot too far will go the same way as any car and this will probably happen when the rock bottom price is achieved and those unable to afford to run or restore them start to move in.
